Hi guys. Anyone remove their front clip for detailing and front end work. I've seen it come off in one piece in some article, but didn't say how involved it was. To me it looks like radiator support to frame bolts, bumper bracket bolts, wiring, fender to cowl bolts top and bottom. Any experiences out there? Is it worth the trouble? Does it line back up easily enough. Mine's a '69. Thanks

I have recently complete this job. It is the first Camaro I have worked (done many other types of cars) and in my opinion, this is a LOT of work! Is it worth it? Yes, if you have a car that you will keep a long time, or if you enjoy working in the garage and the reward of improving your car or if you are going to show it. If it is a "daily driver," you might want to spend the money to have someone do a super job steam cleaning the front end of the car and then replacing any brake/suspension parts that need it. From your user name, sounds like you have a Z-28. If so, I think it would definitely be worth it.
A couple of tips: buy zip lock bags of various sizes and bag and label EVERYTHING you take off the car. Use a PERMANENT laundry marker to label parts and write on the bags. Take pictures. They will help you with reassembly and remind you of the tremendous progress you have made. Put the car in a place where it can be "down" for a period of time and take your time with your resto. You can unbolt the front subframe from the car and roll it out, but I would recommend pulling the motor/tranny, body work etc and then lowering the subframe last. It is much easier to unbolt parts when the frame is mounted to the car in my opinion. Lastly, use this page often. The guys on here have been invaluable to me with their knowledge and moral support when the project gets tough (putting in the coil springs)!
WARNING: when you finish this process, there is a good chance the rest of your car will look a little "tired" compared to your restored engine compartment and front clip and you are in danger of falling into a full restoration!!! Good luck.

So far every front clip removal that I have done broke bolts off or rounded the heads or broke off the nut clips. I have always replaced all the hardware by buying a front end hardware kit from Year One. It makes the installion a lot easier!
