I can not seem to get the new trans at the same height as the PG that came out of my 67 350 convert. The 2004R is hitting the shifter assembly so I can only get it up so far. I'm at least 1/2 inch + too low at the output shaft. This also meant that I had to do some major modifications to the th400 crossmember (OER repop from NPD) because it interfered with the pan. I have read a lot of postings on this swap and have not run across anybody having any of these issues. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I should be looking for or doing different?

When you removed the old trans., did the engine, twist forward ? See if you can tilt the engine by pulling up on the balancer and down at the back of engine. The carb. should be level when you are done.

I guess I didn't measure my T350 before I pulled it. I initially used a T400 Xmember, but got rid of it because of the pan issue. Currently using a BTO crossmember, and might have to get rid of it as well for exhaust clearance. I don't think the 1/2" will cause problems. Try and get the bottom of the pan paralell with the frame rails and it should be OK.

The engine did tilt down at the back and that is my current problem. I need to get it back up higher to allow the HEI to go back in and rotate for timing. With the rear of the trans lower than the original PG it's keeping the eingine tilted back slightly. I'll take a look at the carb level. One thing I was thinking about is the body mounts. They are pretty old and probably squished some. If I replace them that may give me some room to move the 2004R higher but I doubt it will be what I need. Just supprised that this was so much more difficult than what most of the posts on this swap lead you to beleive. There were other issues too, like the shiftworks kit lever not fitting the trans and needing some adjustment in a vice.

Thanks for the replys.

I see now that you have a 67. Rod linkage, correct? 68 and 69 use a cable - maybe thats the difference. Sorry I can't be more help on the 67. FWIW, my shiftworks kit fit perfectly.

Yes, rod linkage. The lever that comes with the shiftworks package that replaces the one on the trans is what did not fit. Ran into the pressure port pug.
