Hi guys,
My car is as described in the signature, except I don't have the slicks on. Am running Nitto drag radials in back. I have no wheel hop with the Slide a links, but cant get my 60 foot times below 2.20 or so. Will the slicks help lower those times? I need help bad. My best run is 8.57 at 85.99 MPH. Is it realistic that my ET will be reduced by the same amount that my 60' time decreases. Haven't really done any fine tuning yet. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I also wonder what I should do to help weight transfer at the strip. I have a front sway bar that probably limits travel. What shocks should I consider going to front and back? What else might I try.
thanks again

Afco 90/10's In The Rear, You Will Probably Need Some Light Front Springs To Help With Weight Transfer.

Street tires I ran 2.0's, McCrearys I was 1.86's, dropped end links to sway bar and got to 1.74's so far. (Tires are shot now)

Did you just unbolt the end links at the track and left everything bolted up?

How are you launching? It can be tough with a 4-speed. I've got to ease it out of the hole.

Removed end links and moved swaybar to be sure it wouldn't hit anything. Left swaybar installed without links, frontend transfers a lot better. I tried a spin around the block and wouldn't drive like that.

thanks guys. I'm hoping the slicks will help quite a bit. As far as launch goes, I was leaving at 2500 when I ran 8.57. I tried 3000 and went up in smoke, tried 2000 and bogged at the line. I love my 4-speed, but tough going with it, particularly at the 1/8 mile track. Very difficult to make up for poor start with such a short track. When I race my buddy, he jumps me by 2-3 cars off the line, then I gain on him, crossing the finish line 5-6 MPH more than him, but I run out of track usually. In a 1/4 mile, I would kill him, because I make a lot more horsepower than him. Not sure what else to try after the slicks. Any more recommendations on shocks and springs? Thanks again,

What works for me is to bring it up to about 1500 rpm and let the clutch pedal up fairly quickly (no side-stepping) while steadily pushing down on the gas. Kinda like a 'quick' takeoff from a stoplight. Then, once the thing gets rolling, nail it. I was getting 2.0 60 ft. times on street tires and 1.8 60 ft. with skinny little drag radials. Any 'dumping' of the clutch and I'm in the 2.2-2.4 range. To make a long story short, I slip the clutch slightly to get it rolling. That's what works for me anyway.

thanks mb. I'm going to give that a try. Might help me. My last 1/8th mile ET was 8.57 @85 MPH. My short term goal is just to reduce 60' time and run 8.30 which is the equivilant of 12.96 or so 1/4 mile time. Would love ultimately to get to 11.96, don't know if that's possible though.

Anything you knock off the first 60 ft. will carry on through to the end. In fact, they say every tenth you knock off the 60 ft. equals 1 1/2 to 2 tenths on the big end in the quarter mile. I can't verify that because I changed other things at the same time, but it will carry through. Have fun. :D

Wow, that's intersesting. Hope it's true. Probably is, because I went back to the 1/8th mile track Friday with the slicks on and dropped my 60 ft time to 1.79 and ran 8.18 at 87 MPH. Hope to break into the 7's next Friday. By the way, I put the M/T ET Drags on my 69, 28X10.5X15 on a 4 3/4 backspace Centerline wheel. Tight fit with NO fender rolling, but have plenty of room by the springs, and at least a 1/4 inch everywhere else. No rubbing anywhere.
