: Floor Boards & Center Hump
Ryan Whittaker Mar 4th, 00, 01:28 AM I am preparing to replace both, full length, floorboards in my 1969 Camaro. I would also like to go ahead and replace the center hump as a previous owner has cut it up pretty bad. I've had no problems locating the floorboards, however I have not seen a replacement for the center hump. I've looked through "YearOne", "Classic Camaro" and a few others and have had no luck. They do make them, don't they? If not, do you suggest just trying to patch the one I have or having one special made. I'm looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Ryan
67502GENVI Mar 4th, 00, 10:57 AM ryan, you said you looked through all these catalogs but did you call and talk to them? alot of times the big suppliers like D&R and Ricks first gen also carry used stuff. they may be able to hook you up. even if they don't have it when you call they may be able to locate it for you, good luck, chris,N.J.

I don't believe that the transmission tunnel (hump) is available as a reproduction.
The reason is that it doesn't rust out like the floor pans due to any water just rolling off.
If you can't patch your existing tunnel, all you can do is get a section from a junk yard.

cardude Mar 4th, 00, 10:34 PM Unless you're a one of a kind fabricator, you'll have to find a donor car on the trans tunnel. I had to replace mine as it looked like a blind man with a chain saw had been there before me. I've seen these advertised on ebay now and then and they have been reasonably priced.

sixtsevnssrs Mar 5th, 00, 04:29 AM I had emailed ryan earlier this week after He had emailed me. I wanted to share my experiance with the rest of the group. I got my trans tunnel from a junkyard. One of the guys cut it out of a 68 Firebird 400 the car was pretty trashed and picked over but the floor was in excellent condition, charged me like 20 bucks!!! The chrome trim ring for the shifter boot was still attached. Don't forget about the other F body for parts, you would be surprised at all the parts that interchange.

RockyMtnRacer Mar 5th, 00, 03:43 PM I know this isn't close to home for you but it is one place that may have a tunnel section available.

RockyMtnRacer Mar 6th, 00, 02:11 PM BTW - I had the same problem with my tunnel and I wasn't anxious to replace the whole thing. I made a template from stiff paper and then cut a big overlay patch out of an original door skin I was replacing. It took a little work to bend it and fit it right but it fixed it up just fine and it was a lot less work than replacing the entire hump.
