View Full Version : Rick's first gen
Gambitt May 16th, 07, 05:49 PM I just got a few things in from Rick's...most of the stuff looks pretty good, one thing I wasn't happy with, and I know this is a small complaint, is the bellhousing clutch ball stud...they show a black phosphate GM type stud on their page, but what I got in my order is a silver cad type finish generic part that was made in China. If I had wanted this type of quality, I could have bought it at my local parts store. I will have to toss it in the garbage and go to my local GM dealer and order one I guess. It was a 10 dollar part...like I said, not a big deal, I just wish they would have said it was made in China...I never would have ordered it.
Daral May 16th, 07, 06:20 PM Email them about it. I have had very good service from them. My guess is they will replace it with the one you want.
Gambitt May 16th, 07, 06:41 PM I might see what they will do.
Lucky68 May 16th, 07, 06:47 PM Rick's has a good return policy. Just give their customer service a call and get a RMA number from them. They need this to credit your account properly. Box up the part and put the RMA number on it.
98blackburb May 16th, 07, 06:49 PM I order most of my parts from Rick's....they have a good no nonsense ,no hassle return policy.

you just call them get a return number and ship it back they will give you a refund or credit...but they will not accept it until you get the return number first then ship it back.....hope that helps.take care....alan
Gambitt May 16th, 07, 07:17 PM I just makes me a little mad that what is pictured on their page isn't necessarily what you get. Now I will be out 2-3 bucks to ship a 10 dollar part back.
98blackburb May 16th, 07, 07:46 PM I agree, product should be as picture, complain to them about.Overall the 4 different vendors I order from they have been the best quality for price so far for me.....good luck.......alan
camaromaniac May 16th, 07, 08:03 PM No vendor bashing intended (we need companies like Rick's just as much as they need us), but I was a little disapointed when I got the wrong part from them, even after supplying the GM Part Number. They indicated that they don't reference parts by the GM part number, although I would have expected them to tell me that when I placed the order. I had to follow up a 2nd time to get reimbursed for the shipping. All I recommend is that you guys double check their understanding of your order. Will I order from Rick's in the future? Yes, absolutely! Charlie
mbmmca May 16th, 07, 08:31 PM I haven't looked at a Rik's catalog closely so I don't know if this holds true, but when looking for a part, see if it specifies "imported". I am an order taker for corvette parts and some of ours are listed as imported, and a second part number for GM/USA made.
Gambitt May 16th, 07, 08:58 PM It didn't specify, and it didn't say that the part would be different that pictured...that is why I am upset.
67FamilyFun May 16th, 07, 09:19 PM It didn't specify, and it didn't say that the part would be different that pictured...that is why I am upset.
Call them in the morning. They have some of the best customer service I have ever encountered, and they certainly have the most liberal return policy I've ever seen. They'll make it right and apologize and you'll feel better...life is too short to get worked up over this.:beers:
blainedoe May 16th, 07, 09:59 PM i don''t think jason's getting worked up. i think he's just voicing his opinion on having overseas junk pawned off on him without telling him first what it is. like he said even though they take it back it's still a hassle. most people just toss it use it or don't say anything. thats why they do it. say something jason i know what you mean. :beers:
zbo2 May 16th, 07, 10:00 PM they might just send you the correct ball and forget getting the other one back.....
67FamilyFun May 16th, 07, 10:23 PM i don''t think jason's getting worked up. i think he's just voicing his opinion on having overseas junk pawned off on him without telling him first what it is. like he said even though they take it back it's still a hassle. most people just toss it use it or don't say anything. thats why they do it. say something jason i know what you mean. :beers:
He said he was "upset"...that is what I was referring to. It wasn't meant maliciously or anything...:noway: Plenty of stuff to get upset over...this would be a mild "chapping" at most :)
Believe what you want, but a company doesn't stay in business long in a competitive environment by "pawning" off "overseas junk". Ricks should change their webpage to reflect the actual product if their supplier has changed, or the product has changed. I'd bet chances are that they didn't realize this had happened...for precisely the reason you said, that no one brought it to their attention.
So bring it to their attention...now this thread has turned into an attack on the companies integrity and they haven't even been contacted...much less been able to tell their side of the story.
blainedoe May 16th, 07, 11:06 PM the item that was shipped was not as advertised or represented. he's not happy. he should say something to them. your right it may not be intentional. so they should fix it. personaly i wished there were a lot more reproduction parts made in the U.S. it just galls me to have to use something on my car stamped made in china, india, you know what i meen.
mbmmca May 17th, 07, 04:49 AM Call them. They should take it back without question. Have your catalog at hand, with the page number, so the person on the other end of the phone can see what you are explaining.
Gambitt May 17th, 07, 05:59 AM I'm not trying to vendor bash here, I am just as happy with Rick's as I am with any of the other vendors...I just wish they would be a little more careful in the listing of their parts. I am sure it is hard for them to keep up with it. I just want to bring it to attention so everyone else doesn't make this mistake. This is what I consider a "high wear" part, so I just don't feel comfortable using a cheap chinese made product there.
Flynn69 May 17th, 07, 06:24 AM When ordering any where.Make sure you ask ALL the questions up front.
I had one salesman ask me if I thought it was his first day.
I told him ,I didn,t need any surprises..................
I like D&R :hurray: Good people, who have gone out of thier way for me.To make me happy.

battersea boys May 17th, 07, 06:53 AM Your right it's high wear and lengthy in installation you need a great part for that job. they are colored black because of the various heat treatments to do the job, that cad plated one is going to be inferior, no question . I fully understand why it has urked you!........
DjD May 17th, 07, 07:10 AM I keep hearing words like upset, irked etc and it doesn't sound like there has been a call to the vendor yet to get their take on the matter. Can a parts clerk not make a mistake? Can a stock boy not drop a part in the wrong bin? Can the catalog not have the wrong picture used by mistake?
Until anyone knows the answer as to what happened you guys sound kinda petty and bitter to me...
The above statement is from DjD the Member not DjD the Admin... Lifes too short guys! Have any of you never made a mistake? Maybe it wasn't a mistake but until you know is it worth being upset over?
Gambitt May 17th, 07, 09:37 AM I sent them an email about the time I started this thread, I am still waiting to hear from them. As soon as I do I will let you know what they said.
Unreal May 17th, 07, 07:27 PM It's expensive and time consuming to keep catalogs current. They certainly can't update their catalog because they changed vendors. Of course, they could keep notes in their computer system reminding the sales rep to tell you of changes.
I'm glad they keep publishing the catalogs. They're a great source of information.
RamAirDave May 17th, 07, 08:14 PM On some parts, Ive asked while ordering if the part has the finish that is pictured in the catalog (brake pad pin/caliper bolt is one example that comes to mind). Its grey in the pic, I wanted zinc. They told me what it was.
Ive bought a clutch ball stud from them. It was dark, so I'm guessing their vendor(s) provide both, and you just happened to get a silver one. There was probably a dark one sitting right next to it in the bin.
Straight-line-69 May 17th, 07, 10:21 PM Rick's is the best vendor in my opinion. Not to be confused with Rik's, the Corvette catalog which is one of the worst (for starters, they have a 15% restocking fee).
Rick's is good faith operator and if I'm unahappy with something, they simply buy it back. As far as the photo not matching what was delivered, keep in mind that many suppliers discontinue parts (not just GM) and Rick's has to find new vendors. But Rick's seems to do their best to carry the best parts available and their prices as good as it gets.
Again, my opinion.
