I have books on building hot rod engines, figuring out cam profiles, and such. I also have the 68 camaro factory manual. I am fairly green in car building, but I am a quick learner and am good with tools. I need some good resources to help me in a step by step fashion pull my engine and tranny from my 68 and then reconnect them including brakes. If you guys can point me in that direction I would appreciate it.

You'll find all that info detailed in the 1968 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual; all the Camaro restoration parts vendors have it.

I'm also wondering is there books on how to install engines and transmissions with a detailed step by step procedure. This will be the first time for me so I need a good reference source while I'm tinkering away. I have never replaced an engine or dropped a transmission before so basic info on that procedure will be helpful.

Chiltons & Haynes manuals for specific vehicles usually have step by step procedures for that stuff aimed at a novice, at least the ones for 70's and 80's cars did. Not sure about '68. The factory GM '99 manuals I have are aimed at a professional mechanic and seem to be a lot more focused at specific components/tasks than a big picture like swapping an engine.

I'm going to check that out at the bookstore today. If not do you guys recommend a general book on how to install engines and transmissions?
