any suggestions ? i'm replacing the fuel line in my 68 i'm trying to stay with metal lines from the tank to the carb but the issue is where to put a fuel filter and how to connect it properly to the metal lines? i didnt really want the filter next to carb to get a clean look.

I would put it somewhere between the firewall and the fuel pump, assuming of course that you still are using a mechanical pump.

use the in carb filter, if you have a clean tank, and new lines it should be fine.

I put mine on the rubber line between the end of the line from the tank and the fuel pump,I put a small diameter filter, bout the size of a nickel and about 2" long that I found at Advanced Auto. Its a Mr. Gasket that comes with filter inserts. Only thing that concerned me was proximity to the exhaust so I zip-stripped it to the lower inner fender well.Have no idea how its gonna perform cause I havent started the car yet!

You need a flexible connection between the frame and the fuel pump or you won't make it very far before it cracks and flames.

I do not recommend a fuel filter in the line before the pump. Although it has been done and can work. Pumps are not very good at "sucking" and restrictions make it more difficult, especially if the filter is small. The filter should be in the line between the pump and carb. The pump has no problem pumping the fuel under pressure through the filter. Just wanted you to know about this so that if you have problems once you get running you have some ideas on where to look.

The cleanest installation is to use the filter in the carb inlet fitting.

Edelbrock makes a nice clean hard line filter set up from the carb to the pump. Check them out. But as stated before the filter should go after the pump not before.
