Hey guys I know that i a weird question, but I will tell you why I ask. I really want to take my car out tomorrow and I am waiting on my hydraulic clutch setup for my 56 bel air. I need to make a new z-bar for the current setup, but all I have is black plumbing pipe that is the right size. Can I mig weld to this or will it not work?
thanks

You can mig weld black pipe, I have done it, but I can't attest to how safe that setup would be.

Black pipe MIGs just fine. I would think it would be OK for a temporary fix.

Seamless high pressure steam pipe might be a better option.

It all depends on what kind of black pipe you have. It comes in different thickness. The thin wall stuff, schedule 40 about 1/16" wall only good to contain pressure to app. 700psi. The schudle 80, 1/8 wall much stronger good to about 2000psi. That should help you decide.
