want to know how new full trunk pan would be installed someone said it went in from underneath but how would you get it past frame rails i thought it would go in from top i was thinking you would have to take tailpan off & slip it in threw the rear instead of from the bottom i know it goes on top of frame rails & you would spot weld it to rails im thinking of buying one & i need to know i prefer one piece instead of several pieces welded togather graemlins/clonk.gif

Put it in from the top. The last one I did my weld seems were about the middle of the frame rails so you cant see it fromthe bottom. The seem nearest the back seat I trimmed and file until it was a perfect fit and welded and grinded it real slow. No body filler was needed. The last seem at the taillight panel was kinda tricky, i put it in where that radius is, welded and gring it smooth. It really depends on what you haev left of your original pan. Send me a pic of it and we can figure out your best bet. --Bryan

Are you referring to this one? I dont think it CAN go through the top.

Definitely from the top, like Bryan said. I would cut out the old pan along the middle of the frame rails and butt-weld the new pan. I also kept the rear-end intact without trimming it because I liked having it bend up against the tail-pan. You should be prepared to trim the new trunk pan where it will meet the middle of the frame rails and where it meets the forward portion of the trunk (back of the rear seat area). Also consider the condition of the two angle brackets that are used for the rear bumper to bolt through. A new bracket can be found at Rick's First Generation or Year One for around $20.

Another point to consider is that you might want to remove the tail pan support bracket found at the center of the tail pan/trunk opening. This really depends on how much floor area you need to replace. Removal of this bracket will help provide more room for grinding and welding in this area. If your skills are sufficient, it is failrly easy to put back into place with the new trunk pan.

I kind of thought the point of this panel is so you dont have to cut it up. Just put the whole thing in,weld on the drop-offs and be done.
 If you want to cut it over the frame rails why not just buy the $80 trunk pan?

Anthony, i think if you cut your old trunk out you could out you could put it up in place from underneath.

shoddy_f-body i would hate to pay 3-4hundred dollars for a pan & cut it up it just didnt look to me like it would fit from underneath i have to put tailpan & quarters in any way i just hated to spend more money when just a regular pan will work but i also hate to piece shock towers to pan when i could do everything but the extensions with one piece it says even get gas tank supports which i need i may wait a couple months to hear back from someone who has used one & tell me about the fit & diffculty of installation thanks again
