View Full Version : 4th Gen Rear Seats in 1st Gen? Mr. B May 21st, 07, 07:01 AM Has anybody put 4th gen rear seats in a 1st gen? Please post pics if you have. 68 Ragtop May 21st, 07, 08:06 AM Somewhere I have seen a whole interior, including dash and console, transplanted into a first gen. If I find it, I will post a link for you. 68 Ragtop May 21st, 07, 06:41 PM pic http://www.adfabdesign.com/Illusion/Interior%20Page/27.jpg link http://www.adfabdesign.com/Illusion/Interior%20Page/Interior.html PROZ11 May 22nd, 07, 04:50 AM Here's a few pictures 4th gen. seats in mine. Not the best pictures, but you get the idea. I could get some better pictures if you'd like. http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1778/x7eh2.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/5326/x2mx4.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Mr. B May 22nd, 07, 05:47 AM Thanks guys. I already know I want the 4th gen front seats. I'm going more pro touring, so I thought the rear seat may look cool too. 68ragtop, do you think the rear seat bottoms would work with the stock rear seat back? What was involved in getting the bottoms to fit? I'm looking at a full set of seats on eBay. If I decide not to use the rear seat, I may tell the guy to keep them to save me some shipping charges. DjD May 22nd, 07, 06:04 AM Mr. B - In the 4th gen the seat bottoms have a much taller tunnel between them with carpet all the way to the seat back. Look at the 4th gen seat back to see how big the drive shaft tunnel should be. If someone tried to sit in the back of a 1st gen with those seats it would be like sitting on the floor with a foam wedge under your knees. When I had my 4th gen I spent hrs comparing the 1st and 4th rear seats to try to see how this swap could be done and be functional. IMO you would have to modify the floor pans and cut down the seat back some for starters. Then it would require custom carpet as the kits end just under the front of the back seat. Too much effort for my taste and even in teh 4th gen the individual seat cushions actually look like an after thought to give the apearence of a back seat in a 2 seater... 68 Ragtop May 22nd, 07, 08:24 AM Thanks guys. This is not my car, just saw it on the net. I have no idea what it takes to make it fit, and by the looks of it this guy is still trying to figure it out. I have seen a few nice pro touring interiors, and none of them look drop in. You may be able to use parts from a 4th gen, but will require alot of fabrication, and that is what pro tour is all about. You may get some better feed back from the pro tour forums. Here is a shot from a 68 I like, the rear seats are split fold down. http://i17.ebayimg.com/02/a/000/77/80/6133_4.JPG |
