: Bad news at Costco today!

I really hope this is just a geographical problem, but here in Salt Lake City I went to Costco to get some fuel for my Impala SS, and they are out of Premium gas. The sign said due to suppliers it will not be available for awhile, because of pricing. This is not a good sign for anyone that uses premium in their cars, and I know this affects about anyone on this site if it becomes widespread. Like I say, I hope it is just a local problem, I did buy Premium at a regular station, but at a much higher rate. Premium today was 3.35 a gallon.

Oh man, that makes me wanna cry. you're only paying 3.35 for premium?!?!? Here in LA its 3.70 or more in 85% of the county. it hasn't been that low in months. dont complain quite yet. it could always be worse.

$3.65 for midgrade 89 octane for the GTO. Needs premium though so add another .10. I keep hearing that the national average is $3.13 a gallon on Monday. I'd like to know where gas is that cheap.

Mike, we're paying $3.53 for regular unleaded over here. You still have it good where you are at. Premium is close to $3.70 or more a gallon here and the price of gas is expected to go up over the Memorial day weekend.

I guess every area gets nailed a little harder than others, but when you take in account the wages, housing, food, etc, factors, no one is winning. They have got it all figured out, keeping you at what they think they can get away with. It is not just gas companies, every item you may need is factored into the equation. Just think how a hurricane, or a cold snap in the orchards send prices reeling, the very day it happens, not adjusted to stock on hand or overage crops. Any reason to gouge, just watch Memorial day, it is the American way.................................Oh yeah, as far as the "dont buy gas on a certain day idea goes", it did not work. It is clear that you will need gas sooner or later the day after. If you want to put the Bastards in place, and lower the rampant rip at the pump, just target one gas manufacturer to boycott. If everyone in this country quit buying from Exon for a one month period, you would see them selling their stock to other companies at a loss, just to keep the refineries running, and drop their prices in a major way to try to lure people back to their pumps. I know this will hurt the contractors that sell their product, but as with any showdown someone will get hurt. You can bet Chevron, Phillips, Citgo, and the rest will be on their toes wondering who will be the next to be boycotted. Now that seems like a idea that has some teeth, not just putting the inevitible off for a day. Maybe start with Citgo, I have no love for them at all...........

Mike: according to Snopes, that won't work either. Read here:

I haven't put gas in my truck in almost three weeks now. My bike takes about 12.00 a week, versus the 60.00 per week for the truck. Based on my observations, no one has cut their driving down. Traffic is worse than ever. 5.00 a gallon IS going to happen. 4.00 will be the "new" 2.00 a gallon. Only one thing will alter driving habits....lack of availability. Price will NOT change how we drive. I have been riding motorcylces since I was 15. My driving habits are the same as they have always been. Truck in the winter, bike in the spring summer and fall.

I recently read where some of the refineries are doing "turnarounds" and capacity is down like 800,000 barrels/day!!

Don't know how true this is tho??

And I've worked a couple of Cat Cracker, (FCCU), turnarounds too so know what it means..

Here in little old New Zealand, it's at NZ$1.64 a litre. Converts to US$4.46/Gal. (3.78litres/1USgallon, NZ$1.00= US72cents) Hope I got that right.

The new thing here in California is the price of groceries has gone up as well. The highest in the nation. Not only is it expensive to fill the tank....but also to eat as well. I know that some of the reason is fuel related. It just seems that companies are using the cost of fuel excuse to raise their prices.

They have gas at Costco? Not here that I ever noticed? We always get the cool stuff last! We have gas at Safeway though! I just filled up my Camaro today. $3.79/9 for 91 at 76. They take away 93 and then 92 and charge more for crappy 91. What the heck is the extra 9 for, why don't they just charge $3.80? Stupid ploy to make you think it's cheaper than it really is?

$3.10/87, $3.15/89, $3.38/93. Expected $4.30/93 by July 4.

I thought all Costcos had fuel centers. You cannot even believe the continuous line of people buying gas from them. I am not sure if it is a big money maker, or just a added service, but I like it. Costco really stands behind their products as well. I just returned a car battery that was in my coupe, and died over last winter. One year free replacement, no questions, no hesitation..........Did not cost me a dime, I almost feel guilty, but we just bought two leather recliners yesterday, so I guess the loyalty pays off. I have never had such good luck buying than I have at Costco. And no I don't work there or have stock in them, they are just great! :hurray:

Oh yeah, anybody ever get their lunch cruising the sample stands at Costco? My wife and I stopped in to get some quick items on our way to get lunch, and pretty soon we could not eat another thing we were so full. Of course we ended up buying much more, but saved on lunch....

Mike, the Kirkland batteries have a 3 year or 36 months, free replacement warranty. It's a good deal either way for a $56.00 battery.

Dave, you are right! It was just over a year old, and I have a electrical drain on the car somewhere and it fried it over the winter. Really nice not to have to debate with a salesperson on when it was bought, pro-ration, and other garbage. :beers: How are ya Dave? Long time no joke............Mike.
