View Full Version : new seats
130fe May 22nd, 07, 10:34 PM I just had a set of 95 TA front seats made to match the 68 interior, what do you think? They are manual seats but have the power lumbar option. I was hoping to have them in for the PT next week but I have too many other things going on right now, we will see.

clwilcox33 May 23rd, 07, 01:33 PM Very nice!
130fe Jun 3rd, 07, 09:25 PM Here are a couple of installed pictures of the seats. I will paint the backing panels and hook the power lumbar up after the power tour (leaving tomorrow). Spent way too much time this weekend just trying to get it running (after breaking down en route to the PT on Thursday).

68rs406 Feb 10th, 09, 11:26 AM Very nice. Somehow I missed this back when you originally posted.
That is medium blue correct? That's what mine is and I want a modern seat with a factory look (mine are neck snappers), what was the cost and where did you locate the material? And was was the cost to recover?
Thanks in advance, looks sweet!
okiemark Feb 10th, 09, 01:25 PM I have a '68 and looking for seats. these look really "tall" as far as the head-rest goes. How did you learn that these particular seats would fit. I see guys on here using other makes/models seats. I also want the stock look with modern comfort.

Yep, I'm curious also as to what that cost. I was quoted about $800 for both with the exact same seat for my '68 med blue interior. Seemed way too much.
130fe Feb 13th, 09, 07:22 PM When I had these done two years ago, a buddy of mine (who does upholstery on the side) did them for around $400 (labor and materials). What I did was take my 68 seats and told him to "mirror" the old design on the TA seats. I ordered the material from classic industries, can't remember how much material it was (yard wise). I can give him a call and ask though if interested. The medium blue was about 90% close to the seat covers I ordered back in 1997. It didn't really bother me though.
Seats like theses are often referred to as 4th gen seats. These seats are from a 94/95 trans am, the TA seats have removeable headrests. I personally hate the seats without headrests, safety is more of a concern then originality. If you don't like the headrests, you can remove them, thats the cool thing about the TA/firebird ones. The camaro seats are different shape, the headrest is built in to them and can't be removed. Yeah, its not original, but then again not much on my car is original and they are 100x more comfortable. The funniest part is while at a car show/cruise, people will do a double take on the seats (are they original or not) and ask me about them. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
68rs406 Feb 14th, 09, 12:18 AM Thanks for the input Chris I appreciate it! I guess I'll need to talk to an upholstery guy and see what they charge. So apparently the medium blue material is available, thats good I'll check classic's prices on it.
Thanks again for the info!
DDOLES Feb 22nd, 09, 09:57 AM Chris,
I just had the exact same seats redone in black leather to match my standard 67 interior. I agree they are wayyyyyy more comfy on the neck and back. it is one of the best things i have done to my ride so far!! They make the car feel like it handles and rides better

DDOLES Feb 26th, 09, 01:58 PM ok i will post the pics of the seats out of the car. i am putting in all new interior with new carpet and the new seats.
6781camaro Feb 28th, 09, 05:45 AM Those seats look awesome!
I have similar plans for mine. I am keeping the stock frames and covers, but I am adding a power bucket seat track to each of my buckets from a late model GM car. Easy mod to do and cheap from any salvage yard. They are 8-way, so the controls will not look original, but hey--I like the bells and whistles. :D Will post pics when finished. Now, I am deeply involved in the body shop forum. Check it out and you'll understand what I mean...:o
DDOLES Feb 28th, 09, 05:21 PM Here is a picture of one of my seats. i made another thread in interiors
