I am in the middle of putting back together a 68 camaro that i purchased from a guy in nebraska. The car is in good condition BUT there was no front sheet metal or parts at all.I have since ordered all(i think) the parts required to build the doghouse. The problem is that this is my FIRST CAMARO project. Does anyone have pics of the assembly process and the correct hardware to use where? i have been reluctlant to order an assmbley manual since alot of people say they are very hard to read. I did find this to be true on a 68 corvette that i restored a couple years ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first of many post on this web site i'm sure. My wife and I are really looking forward to being part of the First Gen community. Thanks!

First off...you need to order the assembly manual, and sit down with it for a while and study on how it is worded and coded and it will be a wealth of info. For instance, in the manual,if it has a part on the page there will be a line to a box with a number in it.In the key on the page it will tell you what that part is...if the part or bolt has another number that has a triangle around it,that will denote that the part or bolt , has a toque spec that will also be in the key.If you've had trouble understanding the manual...start from the first page and read it all before you look something up,the first part is basically an explanation of the book...hell I have to back reference that section all the time when I find myself looking at a page and wondering..."now what was that symbol for". You could open a complete new forum on what the assembly manual can show and tell.Futhermore,I would highly suggest ordering a complete front end hardware fastener kit from any of the camaro parts houses. I ordered a stainless steel set from Classic Industries, and I was never sorry I did.All packages come labeled...like 'Inner fender well bolt" etc and through the assembly manual or process of elimination you can figure it out from there.I recommend the stainless because I broke what had to be a 1000 bolts that were fused after 40 years and I just wasnt ever gonna fight that again, and where they are visible they are coated black so it looks factory correct, so... just a thought and I hope this helps.

And, when used in concert with the AIM, the AMK Products ( www.amkproducts.com ) catalog is very handy, as it has an index in the back with many of the GM part numbers for bolts. So, while the AIM will only say it is a screw (or bolt) and list a part number, the AMK catalog will geneally tell you what size, type of finish, head style, thread count, etc.

What specifically would you request as the "Assembly Manual" if you were looking to order one? Who is it written by, etc?
Sounds like a must have resource.
Thanks

Joe,

You can get them from most 1st gen camaro parts dealers. I would ask BelairBob if he can send you the correct one for your year model. His web address is http://www.belairbobs.com/home. If he doesn't have one you can pick one up at Rick's First Gen, their web address is http://www.firstgen.com

We have had several threads over the years on must have books, and the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) for your model year is definitely at the top of the list.
