What does everyone use to attach door panel watershields? The factory used some sort of sticky bead...which isn't sticky any more. Thanks

Is that what it's called? Since my post I ran across some stuff called Bedding and Glazing Compound by 3M which is sold by NPD for this purpose. It appears to be in a calk tube which would be way more than needed.

The 3M Bedding and Glazing Compound is for sealing glass to the weatherstrip and the weatherstrip to the body opening for old rubber-channel glass installations; you want 3M Strip-Caulk for the watershields.

You can get the strip caulk at any auto body supply house. about $10 for enough to do everything you can think of on your car. I used it to seal the A/C box to the firewall, seal screws, etc.

If you have any windshield butyl left over it works great too (stretched thin).

or wash it. you need it so don't disregard it. you can get the strip caulk wherever you buy automotive paint.

I want to install my new watershields. I checked on the 3M strip caulk and found I can get it locally for about $13.50 per box. I believe I was told the box contains 60 twelve inch strips. My question is regarding the application of the strip caulk to install the water shield. Should the strip caulk be applied entirely around the perimeter of the water shield or just apply as required to secure it to the door? Basically, I am asking how this was done from the factory.......all the way around or just is select areas to secure to the door?

One last comment, I have a '68 deluxe coupe. The water shields I removed from the car had a clear silicone or rubber piece that went around the door handle. My replacements do not have this. Has anyone seen what I am talking about on door shields with a rubber section for the door handle to work through? Thanks!

The watershields came into the plant with the strip-caulk already on them; we just peeled off a liner strip and installed them to the door.

:beers:
