Hello, I just recently joined after picking up my newest project... a 68 camaro. Overall its not in as bad shape as some I was looking at, the rocker panels and doors forward appear to be in good shape. However my rear fender wells are showing some rust thru.

The car has been stored since 1986, and it appears to still be the original sheet metal according to a friend who has restored a couple 1st gen's already. I am not that versed, I have had camaro's before but never getting into it project wise this deep before. Anyways he called it a "survivor" what ever that means and said if it was him he would try to save as much of the original sheet metal as possible. But that just sounds odd to me, why not replace with new is what I was thinking.

So if I could get some more opinions as to proceed I would appreciate it. I have already been quoted 1k per side labor and mat's cost if I provide the full quarters, outer wheel housing and trunk drop offs.

Is that a good price?
Should only repair the lower section that is rusted around the fender?
Should I do a full panel replacement?

Thanks for the advice all, I know it would be easier with picutres but my brother took my dig camara on a camping trip.

Welcome :)
It really IS hard to tell without pics, but personally, I prefer to replace as little metal as possible. So odds are, I agree with your friend and Id go with patching it, the main reason being that most aftermarket metal takes tweaking to fit right and isnt the quality of the original. So unless its really bad and you need a full quarter, why do it?
