Hello, I just joined this website recently and was hoping for some help with restoring my camaro. So heres the deal.

I've got a 78 camaro that was painted and clear coated about 5 or 6 years ago, however, the body work wasn't done very well and my passenger door is rusting and starting to chip the paint. The door is the only real problem area as of now and I really don't have the spare time or money to redo the whole car anytime soon. I've got about all my supplies together to start the body work on the door except for the primer, paint, and clear coat.

I'm hoping to be able to find the same color as the whole car to do the door with but if not I'm wondering how good the paint store would be in matching my car's color its a light blue almost "petty blue", I think its actual name is "Grabber Blue". Any tips or suggestions you all have would be greatly appreciated.

If you dont know the color code that was used when it was painted, then your best bet is to go to the paint store and ask them to shoot the car with a "Color Eye". Most paint systems have them. Here is an example of the Sherwin Williams system. http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/color/color_eye.cfm

It scans the paint on the car and gives you the formula for the closest match in the mixing system.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and great info I plan on heading to the paint store tomorrow. Do you have any recommendations on a good primer? Thanks again.

Regardless of how you match it, you'll probably still need to blend it within the door, or the fender/quarter to have a good repair.
