: Spoiler vs Wing

I am in the process of having my car painted. I posted a question a while back regarding the Baldwin-Motion paint scheme for 1969 Camaros.

I have updated my website with some pictures of this paint scheme. What do you guys think? Too loud?

Also, I am seriously considering the wing instead of a stock spoiler. I know wings are out of style, but what do you guys think?

Since you asked - personally I don't care for the BM paint scheme. The rear section just doesn't do anything for me. And I'm just not a "wing guy" I guess so I'd vote for the stock spoiler.

However, I can appreciate your desire to do something different. If you like the BM look then go for it. If you're having doubts then take a break and do some serious reconsideration - you're investing quite a bit in this project and you need to be satisfied with the end result.

BTW - nice website and sweet car. You're putting together a great combo that'll be a blast to drive. Keep us posted on the paint decision.

Rock,

FYI, my wife has the same feelings about the rear portion of the car being white. I have seen pictures of another B-M car without the rear section painted (i.e., only center stripe over top and hockey sticks on fenders).

i'm a breast man myself, butt really, no wings for me. (lol). no, i do like the stock spoiler better, but i think if i went full tilt with the white rear end, i'd go the full route with the wing and everything. (blue bm ertl car - http://www.amhost.com/supercars/29101.htm )if i went with just the hockey sticks and center stripe, i'd stick with the stock rear spoiler. see this link for the yellow bm ertl car http://www.amhost.com/supercars/29099.htm

I think the BM scheme without the rear portion would look great. I hadn't thought about modifying the look - I guess I figured it was all or nothing. I also agree with Mike - if you're going to do the complete BM approach why not do the wing? If you leave off the rear white paint then I'd vote for the spoiler.

Of course, you know that if you choose a paint scheme that the wife doesn't like you're dead meat! Gotta keep the little woman happy if you want to keep spending time and money on the car.

That's a tough one. The B-M cars are supposed to look radical and different so if I were gonna do a replica, I'd go with the full stripe and wing deal. You should get the side pipes too. They were optional on the Phase III and really make it look radical. Of course, the car needs to run in the low 12's too.

I think he's got the 12's part covered with the bad and blown beastie under the hood - especially with the very favorable gearing from the soon-to-be installed Tremec 5-speed.

BTW gheatly - your wife must be verrrrry understanding!

Well... I'm going to call Motion Performance tomorrow and see about the cost of the wing. I suspect the wing was optional and it wouldn't surprise me if there were B-M cars sold with the regular spoiler. I think I'll ask when I call.

My opinion - I don't think the center stripe looks as good without the back painted (i.e., I don't like the yellow car Mike linked to as much as the blue one).

Also, I think the side pipes look awesome. I've got the American Musclecars book (Otis Chandler's collection) and it has the green car from Mexico in it. There was a nice 2 page picture of the car where you could see the side pipes real good.

I'm going to add them some day. I suspect it will be VERY expensive, since they used Corvette pipe covers. I don't know if they make repros or if I'll have to buy NOS or used.

I'm not sure about headers - block huggers, custom, maybe Sanderson cast??? Where in the heck do you put the mufflers?

Also, the wife is pretty understanding about the car. She thinks it's too loud, so I'm going to take Shawn P's advice and switch to Dynomax mufflers.
