It's time to replace the carpet in the 67 vert. How difficult is it to get the seats and console out? By the way, the console is a 68 with horseshoe shifter if that matters.

By the way, the console is a 68 with horseshoe shifter if that matters. Unreal May 24th, 07, 10:59 AM Pretty darned easy. The seats just unbolt one bolt in each corner. Back seat just lift up while pushing in hard at the hooks. Do a search, I know there is a drawing of the location and shape of the hooks. Since it's non-original, the console may take a little investigation to find how it was installed. They used rivnuts into the floor from the factory (basically a pop rivet with female threads) Fred Ficarra May 24th, 07, 11:26 AM I wouldn't say it's easy. It's work. Everything has to come out or loose. Even the seat belts. And the kick-panels. The console has to be loosened but not removed. I leave the front seats in while removing the backseat. I position them to match my forearm length to use as a brace. Then with my palm against the lower/front of the rear seat I move my shoulder toward the front of the car. That forces my forearm backward to push in the front of the seat. When it's all the way back, I lift the seat up. That frees it from the retaining hook. Make sense? 67fan May 24th, 07, 01:05 PM I guess I'lll learn along the way. I have had the back seat out so I am ok with and I did not factor in the seat belts either. I was more worried about console. Never thought about the kick panels, thought I could slide it under the lip and be OK. I hear those are a bit^&%$ch to get out. You guys are great, I like the fact that I get things pointed that I never thought of. DjD May 24th, 07, 01:38 PM I just did my carpet and didn't want to slice the front carpet down the middle for the console so I removed it completely. I cut a hole just big enough to clear the shifter cable and the front mounting bracket. I bolted the shifter through the carpet... I also didn't remove the kick panels. It took some work and I made a tool with a bend in it to fit under the lip of the kick panels that allowed me to pull the lip out when sliding the carpet under. This is a finesse thing. Seat belts and seat bolts are easy if you lay the back carpet in place with the bolts in the holes they belong in. You can feel the bolt heads and cut the carpet using the bolts as a guide... Remember the front carpet lays on top of the bolted in seat track so you don't have to cut holes in it. Don't trim the carpet until the carpet has been installed and the seat belts and console are back in place. Leave the seats out at this point. Also when trimming tor the sills and kick panels good scissors work better than a razor knife. I used electricians scissors on mine. This was more about preping the floors but it might give you some ideas... http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=107790 Chevy Chase May 27th, 07, 11:33 AM Dennis- Installed new carpet over dynamat yesterday:hurray: Followed your helpful sugg. Went to big carpet chain and huge hardware store chain and mgm't there never heard of "electrician's scissors." Did you mean electric scissors? Ended up using 10" aviation snips LEFT CUT being I'm right handed. Made pilot hole using an awl & exacto knife. Couldn't believe how easy it was, and no carpet unravelling. DjD May 28th, 07, 08:06 AM Terry - here's a web site selling them... I haven't bought from them, just googled to give you an idea what they look like. http://www.specialized.net/ecommerce/shop/layout.asp?product%5Fid=024X285 They are only about 6" long total but are very sharp and heavy duty... Good job on getting the carpet done, glad I was able to help. |
