I'm anal like that.Let me know if your interested. Fred Ficarra May 24th, 07, 12:01 PM Just to keep you from being disappointed in GM quality; Back about 20 years ago a knowledgeable friend told me how GM body parts become body parts. As the vehicle is assembled on the line and the components are inspected prior to finishing, if the inspector finds a flaw, they raise their hand and shout "parts". The part is whisked away to be sold to somebody who will be stuck with tweaking the part. Hey! That way the 'line' doesn't have to do it!:noway: 68z28sd May 24th, 07, 02:25 PM i find that hard to believe. since they still produce parts for vehicles no longer produced how would the get these? secretly still producing cars. the parts were usually produced at a completely different facility than car, parts damaged in shipping were either repaired on line if minor or scrapped never put back into circulation after being on the assebly line. jcdubs May 25th, 07, 08:35 AM All the GM sheet metal I ever bought was pretty much perfect! Of course that has 20+ years ago. I did buy a GM rad support a few years ago and that was pretty ratty though!. Goodmark is the way to go on the cowl hood. Hmmm, my experience is the opposite. Unreal May 25th, 07, 02:44 PM I've heard that about GM parts, but the vast majority of NOS parts were made after the model year ended. So it may have been true through late 60's to early 70's, but I don't see how that would hold true for most of the NOS parts floating around, now. Yea, there may be a couple that were "lost" in the bowels of a delaership parts warehouse, but more were made much later. Parts like the hood, which only recently was discontinued (I didn't know it was) were made in the last few years. Of course, some folks call parts, still available from GM, NOS. I call them new GM. kgmunro May 25th, 07, 06:51 PM I put a goodmark hood on my 69 camaro and it fit great. The guys thought it was original because of the great fit. They are common to buy around here and most of them are no problem boltons. Jack Eggers May 25th, 07, 07:45 PM I just put a Goodmark on my 67 tonight and it worked fine. It took about 10 minutes of careful bending with a strategically placed 4x4 to balance the two front corners with the center crown but that is all it required. I consider that normal and most likely a result of shipping, moving it around for six months and paint shop gremlins rather than a manufacturing problem. overhaulin1 May 25th, 07, 10:35 PM i had to crown mine also...
