Will I still need the tall AFX spindle if I go with the DSE control arms, or can I keep the stock spindles?

View Full Version : DSE control arms + AFX spindle? 01somta May 29th, 07, 02:21 PM Will I still need the tall AFX spindle if I go with the DSE control arms, or can I keep the stock spindles? eville May 29th, 07, 02:30 PM tis your choice. The arms will work with both spindles. The AFX spindle will however help correct the camber curve. The DSE arms will not unless you do the guldstrand mod. 01somta May 29th, 07, 02:57 PM tis your choice. The arms will work with both spindles. The AFX spindle will however help correct the camber curve. The DSE arms will not unless you do the guldstrand mod. I read that with the DSE arms that you don't have to do the guldstrand mod. http://www.pozziracing.com/first_gen_suspension_geome.htm#Geometry%20discussi on eville May 29th, 07, 03:19 PM If you buy DSE arms, you can install them either of two ways, in the original mounting holes or using the "DSE Modified Guldstrand Mod" where you only lower the mounting holes, not move them rearward. What you should do depends on your goals for your car. If it were me and my car, with my goals, I would use a geometry modified UCA (dse, speedtech, globalwest) and the ATS Tall AFX Spindle. (Oh wait, that's what I did). For many here, the guldstrand mod satisfies their goals, for others, the DSE arms with the relocated mounting holes does and for others, the ATS spindle is desired. There's a lot of information on this subject here. Use the search feature. Also have a look over at pt.com Good luck. Teetoe_Jones May 29th, 07, 03:41 PM Final answer on aftermarket UCA: The following brands allow for more postive caster with less shims: Global West Detroit Speed Speedtech None of them will correct the lack of negative camber gain or bumpsteer issues that plague all 1st gen F body cars. To fix the camber *only*; you would need to do the G mod or the DSE weld in coil over kit. The G mod is more agressive than the DSE coil over kit, but neither modification is as agressive as our AFX tall spindle. To fix the bumpsteer you can get rid of some of it with an adjustable pin in the outer tierod end (Baer trackers) or you can use our AFX spindle. The handling difference between adding our tall AFX spindle to bone stock control arms is going to be light years ahead of adding an aftermarket tubular upper control arm to a stock spindle. The AFX spindle with an aftermarket control arm is even better still. Bottom line is that the UCA is not going to give you the handling you think it will because it is just compensating for a huge shim stack between the cross shaft and the frame. Tyler 01somta May 29th, 07, 04:47 PM So would the DSE w/o the g-mod, AFX tall spindles, and baer trackers be a good combo? Mark .L.W. May 29th, 07, 05:14 PM Speedtech has a good deal on there stuff right now . Mark. eville May 29th, 07, 05:16 PM As I understand it, you don't need to use the baer tracker tie rods if you use the AFX spindle. The spindle corrects the bumpsteer issue. It's an option to use the trackers if you need extra clearance for wheel clearance. Teetoe_Jones May 29th, 07, 05:28 PM So would the DSE w/o the g-mod, AFX tall spindles, and baer trackers be a good combo? Yes, it will be outstanding. Tyler 1stGenLvr Jul 18th, 08, 04:08 PM I've been reading about these AFX spindles for some time and I'm convinced they are a good way to go...but I can not find any for sale. Where can I purchase them? BigBlock1969RS Jul 18th, 08, 08:08 PM /Points at Teeto_Jones I got mine from ATS - http://www.t56kit.com/ 1stGenLvr Jul 18th, 08, 08:36 PM The last time I checked there they didn't have any available. maybe they're available now? They do they come with the complete assy, hub, bearings assy? |
