Hey everyone!
I just pulled off my timing cover to try and find out what cam is in this 383... The marking on the front of the cam is S-391 and there also is a D6 on the opposite side. If anyone knows what cam this is please let me know!
Thank you very much.

Kyle,
Did you take the timing gear sprocket off ? S391 is the Cloyes part number for a Chevy cam sprocket.

Ummm...thats not your cam ;) Thats the lower timing gear mounted on the front of the crankshaft.

Your camshaft ID numbers will either be engraved or stamped on the rear of the cam facing the firewall as the cam sits in the engine.

I see two big CC's and then 290...??? On the end of the cam...

Probably a Comp Cam cam..

I still stand by my original statement...the numbers and the pictures you posted are not of the cam.

I've used countless comp cams for the last 20 years and have never seen one with any kind of identifier stamped on the front of the cam. I would suggest pulling it and looking at the rear of the cam as that is where pretty much every cam company puts the grind number.

Although IIRC the Crane Cams 290 fireball that I pulled out of my nova was stamped this way on the front. I'll have to look when I get home.

How about more specifics...heads, compression, etc etc. What is wrong with it now?
