Anybody out there ever replace the bushings that are on the pivit shaft that enters the firewall ? I found these in the year one catalogue but it states for 67 models, looking for 68. My gas pedal has a ton of slop left to right and I'm guessing the bushings are shot or just plain gone.

Many thanks!

68 and 69 use a plastic support at the firewall; 67 is metal. The 68-69 cars don't use bushings.

If you have side to side slop, most likely your throttle arm isn't on the shaft far enough. If it's on fully, you can see a little of the "D" shaped end of the pedal shaft sticking out of the far (passenger side) of the arm.

If it isn't the throttle arm being half off the rod, then it's possible that the plastic support is broken or loose. Have you checked the two screws that hold it to the firewall?

I will examine closely tonight, I did tighten the nuts that hold the bracket in the firewall - which did help but not enough.

The pivot rod that enters the firewall is loose in the plastic "boot" that holds it in place. Can't tell if its cracked or what but the pedal will deflect about 1/2" to the left before I get any throttle repsonse if you know what I mean - feels like giving it gas and going no where.

Sounds like your support is cracked. To be sure, you'd have to shine a light down there and watch while someone works the pedal.
