View Full Version : Front seat belts
AJK May 31st, 07, 05:13 AM I am getting ready to reinstall the front seat belts on my 69, they have been out over twenty years. Question do the white date tags face up or down on the tunnel hook up? No problem on the side retractables already got them in their marked left and right. Thanks Folks, Tony
Rack Man May 31st, 07, 07:31 AM Tag Faces Up.....so you can see it when It's mounted...I checked my car which is all original...

Unreal May 31st, 07, 09:51 AM Not sure what you mean by "UP". The tag should face the carpet on the tunnel. The tag would not be seen, if you have the belts "stored" However, you can see the tag when you wrap the belt around you.
KevinW May 31st, 07, 10:26 AM I think the tags can be read when mounted. So my vote is the tag facing away from the carpet. Front Lap belt tags are down near the anchor, partially covered by the boot.
AJK May 31st, 07, 03:41 PM Thanks Folks,
I think I am going with the white tags facing up away from the carpet. I installed them with the tags facing down (towards the carpet) this morning and I get a slight twist in the lower part of the belts near the tunnel connection when I buckle up. Again folks its great having you all out there to share the valuable information. I had also forgotten about the lower boots on the tunnel connections. Thanks, Dan for taking the time to check out your car for me.

Unreal Jun 1st, 07, 10:40 AM Mine have to be facing toward the carpet in order to avoid the 1/2 twist when I buckle up. I sewed new labels in mine (thanks KevinW) and I'm sure I put them on the side I removed the old ones from. If they are supposed to face away from the carpet, That means I re-installed the buckles backward.
Can someone check untampered with female buckles to see which direction the sewn fold at the end of the belt should face, when the belt threads through the buckle and then U folds back against itself. ie should the sewn flap face inward toward belt, where you can-not see it, or should it face outward where you can see it.

All of my female buckles are virgins (Madonna, eat your heart out). Males are too, actually. The date tags are facing the carpeting on the tunnel. So if I sit in the seat and strap on the belt, the white tag is showing. If I lost some weight I could cover the tag with the leftover ‘tail’ on the belt. Rear belts are the same. If I lay the belt on the back seat, the tag is facing up. Hope that answers the question for you.
KevinW Jun 1st, 07, 12:36 PM Gary, I can say for certain that the fold is facing inward. Look at the green one in this pic. Also note the green set is a front and labels are down near the anchor and would be facing out. Black set are rears and it looks like the label is facing down and is more in the middle of the belt.

Mark, I think the 67s might be a little different from 69s. So both might be correct. Remember, the sew-ers probably got $$ for units done and were encouraged to reach a quota :D

Hmmm. OK, those are exactly opposite from what I have. Of course, mine are 67 belts and they have standard buckles, not deluxe. I wonder if that accounts for the difference?

KevinW Jun 1st, 07, 01:03 PM I will dig out my 69 standard buckles tonight.
Rack Man Jun 1st, 07, 01:57 PM Actually, the bottom belt (Lap belt) tag faces down (tag to carpet)...the top belt (shoulder) faces up (away from carpet)...with this configuration there is no 1/2 twist...(at least on my car)

Dan,
Thanks again for the help and picture, I finally got a hold of my nephew he has a 69 also untouched and his is like yours. Bottom belt (lapbelt) tag down and top belt (shoulder) tag up. So I will make that ajustment. Thanks again folks for the walk through, it's been a pleasure.

KevinW Jun 2nd, 07, 05:06 AM Sorry guys, close thunderstorm last night, had to shut computer down. I checked my belts and confirmed Dan's and Tony's friends findings. Both deluxe and standard front laps had the label facing down, shoulder belt labels are facing up.
I checked the Fisher manual for mounting info and lap belt is mounted first against carpet and shoulder belt is mounted on top of the lap belt. So in the proper configuration the shoulder belt label is visible.
Have fun checking your belts! :D
