View Full Version : Speaker wire polarity

One set has black and red lead. Other set has White stripe on one wire.The third set just has a small terminal and a larger terminal on speaker{ no wires}.Need to know how to make sure all are running same polarity.Thanks for any help.

Three of the wires ought to be common with the battery negative, the other three will be hot. Most speakers have the polarity marked on the connection.

As a general rule, plain black is negative. If a wire has a broken dotted white line on it, that's the positive one, I do believe. Might wanna check up on that.

If you ever need to figure out an unmarked speakers polarity, touch a 9V battery to it. If it deflects forward (away from the magnet) then it's as connected (same as battery). If it deflects toward the magnet it's reversed.

from what i have heard you could blow cheapo speakers that way, but I have never had that happen to me

Use a AA battery for that test. Not a 9V.
