My 67 Camaro Convertable has a 350 TPI motor with a basically stock intake system and computer. Its a MAF system without the 9th injector (it's removed and blocked off). I'm having problems with starting. After the car sits for 6-8 hours, I have to spray starting fluid in the plentum to get it started. Once its started it runs great. Car has a Ricks Fuel tank with an intank pump. Fuel pressure is steady at 42 PSI after it starts. also reads 42 PSI soon as Key is turned on, Pump runs for aprox 3-5 sec. 42 PSi hasstrong crank but no Fire. Hit it with Start Fluid and it cranks right up. Most times it will restart if it hasnt sit for a prolonged period. Then if it doesnt start right away, a small shot of starting fliud will get it restarted right away.
Will the 9th injector disabled cause this or should I look elsewhere?

I'm no expert with stock TPI systems, but I'm pretty sure that is the entire reason for the "9th" injector. It was used to add more fuel for cold startup.

Assuming that everything else is working AND that your ECU has the stock settings I would think that this could be your problem. Have you had the ECU re-flashed? After about 88 (?) they changed to ECU's to add extra fuel with the existing 8 injectors and eliminated the 9th.

As Paul suggests, ninth injector is for cold start and ECM is prgrammed for this function.

If you do decide to install the 9th injector back in, don't forget the 8 second thermo switch below the thermostat housing and its associated wiring. I even think there is a control box for it riding piggy back of the ECM.

Thanks for your replys. I do intend to reinstall the cold start injector. Does anyone out their have a schematic of the wiring for this 9th injector. The car has never had this injector active, so I have no idea how to route and properly contect the connectors, or to where.
You guys help is greatly appreciated.

I went to the link you posted, lots of info there, but its way over my head. I believe the support system I have is OBDI. I dont think my system can be reprogrammed with the OBD II programmers.
A simple diagram for hooking up wiring and sensor for this 9th injector would be of great help, if someone has one.

I believe if you reprogram the chip, the cold start function the 9th injector provides can be handled by the other injectors. If someone blocked off the injector without the right chip program, that should explain your problem.

You could replace the missing injector, or reprogram the chip to provide cold starts with the other 8 injectors.

From what I have read, MAF came both ways in different years. 9 injectors from 85 - 88, 8 injectors in 89.
