Having a fuse problem,The book calls for a AGC 20 amp. I have been using a SFE 20 amp. Are these the same? What do these letters mean anyway?

I've read that "SFE" stands for "Society of Fuse Engineers", & "AG" stands for "All Glass". Same, just match physical size and amps.

 What is your fuse problem? If the problem is blowing fuses, then going from SFE to AGC is not going to help.

SFE are automotive fuses and AGC are general purpose. Use the SFE for your car.

SFE are automotive fuses and AGC are general purpose. Use the SFE for your car.

The only difference between the 2 is how they are made. AGC fuses are all the same length for all the diff amp ratings.

AGC Fuses

1/4" X 1 1/4", Ratings from 1/20 to 30 amps.

SFC fuses use diff lengths for diff amp ratings. They were made that way so you couldn't put a bigger fuse than what was called for.

SFE Fuses

Size rejecting 1/4" diameter X length: 5/8 (4 amp). 3/4" (6 amp), 7/8" (7.5 amp), 1" (9 amp), 1 1/16" (14 amp), 1 1/4" (20 amp), 1 7/16" (30 amp).

If you use SFC fuses, the lower amp ones may not reach the clips completely. Older cars used the AGC fuses.
