I mounted my Sony in the Glove Compartment of my 68 Camaro. I wanted to give my car a stock appearance and hide all radio equipment. I used a set of front speakers and custom mounting bracket from Custom Autosound. The Bracket was great, but the speakers were junk. I purchased a set of Sony 4 Inch Round Coaxial Speakers to mount in the new bracket which mounts in the stock location with no modifications necessary. In the Rear, I used a set of Jensen 6x9 Speakers. My car originally had the optional Rear Seat Speaker, so, I purchased another Speaker Grille to match. When you decide on a radio, make sure you can plug in a wired remote. If the Glove Box Door is closed, the wireless will not work.

I did the same as the poster above and also installed an infrared repeater so I can control it with the glove box shut. Works great.

Where did you get the IR repeater? Easy to install?

Off Ebay. It was cheap (About $20) and very easy to install.

Here's some links with some info about hidden radio's, wired remotely controlled radio's, and IR repeaters I just wrote about:

We just put a secret audio unit in my friends 67 camaro. 1st off I will state when I saw the secret audio unit I thought it was a cheap lil piece of crap, it weighed less than a can of soda, and just looked like a flea marker part.

However I will say that while it looked cheap, upon completion of the install it does sound good, and pushes the 4 speakers better than I expected.

We put the cd changer on the passanger side in the trunk, put a 10x2 sub box in the trunk with a 320 amp mounted to the box, 2 pioneer 6x9 deck speakers, and 2 eckler kick panels with pioneer speakers, and a secret audio head unit in his car all for around 1k with wiring included.

Kick panel removal was a pain, but such was expected, installation was alot easier (vent was also sealed).

The radio reciever was going to be mounted in the glove box, however once we stuck it up for mock up we realized we didnt like it. So sitting back we took a break for a cold one and thought it out. We removed the ashtray and ashtray holder (1 screw) and then mounted the bracket to hold the radio atop of the ashtray holder. Then added a lil strip of sheet metal to the top of so the holder so it would be held in place with 3 screws instead of one. This way the radio is basicly in the dash in the area the original radio would of been in, and hidden behind the radio delete center trim.

All you have to do then is place the little radio control module where you like, be it on the center console, under the dash, or like we did in the dash (had a new dash center trim replica with radio delete, and we cut out a small place for the control module to slide in).
