View Full Version : 69 camaro console lights question. tgifford5 Jun 6th, 07, 07:33 PM I have a 69 camaro with auto trans. and a horseshoe shifter with no console gauges. Is there suppose to be a light to illuminate the park, reverse, neutral, drive panel? mark x22 Jun 6th, 07, 08:09 PM yes . do you have any wires going to the console ? KevinW Jun 6th, 07, 08:41 PM Yes, the PRND21 panel has 2 bulb sockets. The lights are part of the console wiring harness. JimM Jun 6th, 07, 09:03 PM is the wiriing in the dash harness? I don't remember if 67's lit up the shift quadrant... tgifford5 Jun 6th, 07, 09:28 PM yes . do you have any wires going to the console ? I have not checked to see if I have wires going to the console. What color wires should they be? I just thought the other night when driving that the panel should be illuminated. Fred Mertz Jun 6th, 07, 10:43 PM The bulb sockets could very well be in the console they tend to fall on their own sometimes. When they fallout they do NOT light up because they lose their ground connection. If your neutral safety switch is working the wires should be there, it's part of the same harness. KevinW Jun 7th, 07, 05:26 AM Actually, all indicator bulbs on 69s are grounded through a individual black wire. Hard to ground to plastic :) The console bulbs should have a black and green (or gray) wire connected to a small plastic bulb socket that fit into the metal backing of the indicator panel. JimM Jun 7th, 07, 06:25 AM The power wire will be gray for those lights. They will need a ground as well. DjD Jun 7th, 07, 06:55 AM The 2 shifter plate lights have 2 wires each to them just like Kevin has stated. A black ground and a grey positive. If your car didn't come with a console or the console harness is missing you can tap off the heater control lamp wiring, it's the easist to get too. It won't be factory but you'll be able to dim the console with the rest of the dash. tgifford5 Jun 7th, 07, 07:41 AM Two more questions. Which direction is the wiring harness coming from? Is it from the firewall under the carpet or off from the side somewhere? And what is the easy procedure to get to the light sockets and wiring harness? Thanks a bunch guys. I am down right now with my March serpentine belt conv. issue that I have in the general forums. So maybe I can tackle this while down and waiting for parts. DjD Jun 7th, 07, 09:14 AM There is an opening at the firewall end of the console for the wire harness. Actually there is a bracket that holds a plug where a branch of the main dash harness connects to the console harness. Not sure what it's like without the 4 guage package. For lights you need the 2 bulb sockets wired with black and gray. Call Steve's Camaro's 800 544-4451 and see if he has a piece of a dash harness he could sell you with 2 lamp sockets in it if you don't want to go to the expense of a complete harness. |
