Based on a recomendation, I bought a Hitachi starter for the 406. The problem is that the standard starter on a 69 has 3 wires. Battery, yellow and the purple (Colors may be wrong, as I'm going by memory this morning)

The Hitachi starter only has 2 connections 1-Pos battery 1-Starter connection.

Now what?

What kind of ignition system are you using? Are you using the yellow wire?

You are correct.

I have a full MSD system....Distr, coil and 6AL...... The yellow was hooked up to the stock starter, with the MSD parts being installed for the last 2 seasons.

What's the other end of the yellow wire hooked to? Originally it would have gone to the coil, but you typically remove it when you install an MSD.

Assuming you removed the resistance wire (which you should have when you put the msd stuff on) you have no need for the yellow wire.

Ater reviewing the reponses the light bulb lit up...The yellow wire is taped off and not being used. I forgot that I had done that when I upgraded the system 2 seasons ago.

Thanks all for responding.
