If you can live w/ it, go for it.. Anybody else wanna comment, please come right in... pdq67 pro70z28 Jun 8th, 07, 05:08 AM I had ladder bars on my street rod back in the 70's. It didn't ride bad at all. And we made more than 1 trip across the country to NSRA events, pulling a pop up camper. One thing that may have made a difference is on an old vehicle 40 Chevy Panel Truck, I had room for long ladder bars and a pretty wide panhard bar. Also had solid motor mounts & carrera coil over shocks up front. Never had any breakage problems in all those miles. About the only negative was ringing ears after a day on the road with a healthy 454 under to hood. :noway: My ears still ring to this day.:yes::yes::yes: Dunno if that had anythin' to do with it. :p:p:p pro70z28 Jun 8th, 07, 05:17 AM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/PanelTruck.jpg Here's a pic. of the unit. Can't really see them here but the ladder bars extended forward to somewhere around the back of the doors. About 1/3 the length of the wheelbase if my memory is correct. Truck hooked good, went straight & had 0 wheel hop. jenpopp Jun 8th, 07, 05:20 PM I run ladder bars snugged right up to the spring eye. I have a lowered car and can, as stated before, run into a few clearance issues. I also have very limited suspension travel as well. However, I have never run into a situation that I have major problems with. I am just careful where I go. I am on the lookout for speed bumps, and certain city street intersections, which are probably on everyone's minds if you have ladder bars or not. I suppose I have 2 1/2 inches clearance. If you are building a Pro Touring car, that implies handling which is pretty much incompatible with ladder bars. 4-link or IRS is the way to go for PT. 2nd choice would be the stock leaf spring setup with upgraded springs/shocks/bushings. Last choice would be gokart style solid mounted with no suspension. Next to last choice for PT would ladder bars. 2x67rs/ss Jun 9th, 07, 07:34 PM Ladder bars will give you clearance issues. I run them on my street racer. If it was possible I would go back to leaf springs and cal tracs car don't hook better with the bars. As far as handling a spool and skinny tires don't handle curves real well with ladder bars or leaf springs. Biggest complaint would be clearance at floorboard and ground not to mention room to fit exhaust. Just my .02 cents pdq67 Jun 9th, 07, 07:53 PM Rodder hit it!! And I will put my leaf spring car up against anybody that is as CRAZY as I am once I get my car on the road!! I say this b/c there are those out there that will flat run over you regardless! Strip, it's a different deal to me so the same goes.... Leaf springs and good old slapper-bars is all w/ real slicks!! Heads up dragging like of old, only thing here tho IS equal hp per cars re-f-- gardless!! pdq67 Ps., Mod, sorry, my potty mouth over loaded me again............. |
