View Full Version : Got fired yesterday.
57plymouth Jun 9th, 07, 05:56 AM I guess the advertisement isn't true, Nationwide is not on your side. The gory details are that I had a large territory, and was never going to be able to meet their time to completion expectations. I told them that over and over. The supervisor position in my area was recently filled by an incompetent buffoon who was demoted to that position. He decided to take his anger out on me, and has done so for the past 6 months.
I knew the axe was coming, which is why I started my home inspection buisiness (blatant plug ahead) www.cooperhomeinspection.com The good news is that buisiness is doing well and is growing every week. I won't be comfortable for a little while, and my wife is pregnant, but with faith in God it will all work out.
Keep me in your prayers, and shop your insurance rates because Nationwide is a ripoff. I couldn't afford them even with the employee discount.
Everett#2390 Jun 9th, 07, 06:12 AM Keep the faith. Things happen for a reason.
mbmmca Jun 9th, 07, 06:26 AM Keep the faith. God's plan is bigger...
nashcar Jun 9th, 07, 06:49 AM I had Nationwide for 25 years, just switched to Allstate. You made a good move. The home inspection is a growing idea, you'll be fine.
fireeater Jun 9th, 07, 07:32 AM Hope things workout for you. This may be a good thing.
RickD Jun 9th, 07, 07:46 AM That sucks and I know your pain. I do believe it will work out for the best and I'm glad your home business is growing. Persevere is the byword!
67FamilyFun Jun 9th, 07, 07:51 AM Brian,
So sorry this is happening. It will all work out, keep faith. We will put you and Angie in our prayers.

Camaro Dave Jun 9th, 07, 11:41 AM I am also a believer that things happen for a reason. It was your time to move on to a better career and is part of God's divine intervention that lead you down your current path.

69 merlinpro565 Jun 9th, 07, 02:31 PM As said, things happen for reasons...sounds like for the best. Good luck with your pursuit! Dave.
57plymouth Jun 9th, 07, 03:03 PM Thanks for the support everyone. I'm pissed at ****, the bumbling incompetent that canned me to cover his own tail. But I knew someone was going to get it for a while. I started into home inspection and have a few realtors working with me. I really enjoy the field. I'm sure God has a plan that will work out in my favor in the long run.
pdq67 Jun 9th, 07, 04:02 PM Brian,

dreamweaver Jun 9th, 07, 05:31 PM With all the tax breaks you get for being in business for yourself you only have to make around 1/2 - 2/3 of what you used to make to have the same disposable income. Get with a good tax person, find out EVERY tax break you are entitled to, and take advantage of them all.
Every time I go out to dinner with my wife, it's deductable
Every time I get on a plane, it's deductable
Just about every mile I drive is deductable
Etc, Etc, Etc, Etc,
Whether you take a Calvinist or an Armenian viewpoint, it's all good. Just trust in the "Pan Theory".
click Jun 9th, 07, 08:22 PM Kalif is right in that more 'stuff' is deductible BUT you also have to pay both sides of your Social Security, over 15% instead of the 7% you used to contribute when the employer paid 8%. And you have to 'take in' enuf case to have the money to write it off. :D

Not yet, but they will be soon  Just have to figure out all the angles, start a new corporation, and A-WAY_I_GO :)
JV69z/28rs Jun 10th, 07, 07:50 AM Things have a way of working out. Your business is starting to take off and you can give it your full attention. Whether that becomes your only income or you take another job and do both you eventually land on your feet. Ask me how I know.
clwilcox33 Jun 10th, 07, 08:31 AM I think this is good news! You're going to be able to devote your full attention to your business now, and life is about to be much much better for you!
pdq67 Jun 10th, 07, 08:52 AM Sure one is!!
Daily drive and depreciate it and go..
And insure it heavily for when some Dude steals it off the street!!

radial72 Jun 10th, 07, 10:36 PM I can understand your anger, but you should really delete the company's name and your former supervisor's also, it's actionable if they ever felt like you were worth suing. Not that they would, but it probably isn't worth it...words like "ripoff" are a pretty big incentive though. Never had any dealings with them, and I'm NOT taking their side, or do I even have any real opinion, but I'd hate to see you have any extra problems right now! And Good Luck!
57plymouth Jun 11th, 07, 05:57 AM I understand your concern, but consider this:
Ford makes uncomfortable cars, that's a fact.
Smoking can cause cancer, that's a fact.
The South lost the Civil War, that's a fact.
Therefore, to state a fact that Nationwide, as well as other big insurance companies, are overpriced is not a big suprise.
I'll take my chances. I'm not the only one who says they are a ripoff.
Old baldguy Jun 11th, 07, 06:07 AM Brian ,I will add you and your family to my prayers ,good luck and keep the faith...Happy Motoring
dreamweaver Jun 11th, 07, 09:33 AM Sorry...... gotta side with Radial on this one.
IMO - It's simply not worth the risk of exposure, irrespective of how justified your claims may be. People get sued all the time for ridiculous things. Unfortunately the courts are often swayed by the Golden Rule... those who have the gold make the rules. You may want to shake your finger at them...... but do it from afar. A big company like that has attorneys on retainer and won't thinkk twice anout taking you to the mat. It's not about who's right or wrong; it's about who has the most money and can prevail in court. If you're trying to get a business off the ground the last thing you need is to be tangled up in a lawsuit. I think you should edit your post for the simple reason that the temporal satisfaction of revenge is not worth the potential risk of being sued.
Since you brought up God, I'll end with Him. He says, "Vengence is mine... I will repay"
TMagda Jun 11th, 07, 02:54 PM Hey Dreamweaver,
I wouldn't be bragging about tax evasion in a public forum if I were you!
dreamweaver Jun 11th, 07, 03:09 PM Hey Dreamweaver,
I wouldn't be bragging about tax evasion in a public forum if I were you!
..... trying to figure out how you could have interpreted anything I have said as bragging. More importantly, how could anything I have written be construed as tax evasion? Please explain...

My wife had a similar issue a while back...and she had the sales figures to show that she was real good at her job...
The writing was on the wall, she just looked for a new job, and ended up being head huntered....walked into the big bosses office one day, logically told him what was happening, told him it is either her boss goes or her, she dosent need or want the agro...and handed him her rmonths notice.
Hre said he would "have a word with the guy" The wife said,,,"u are not listening...him or me" for the next month the company made alsorts of posimises, offered very attactive salary increases.
But at the end of the day the issue was simply "she dosent need or want the agro"
Some months later her old boss 'resigned'
What is most important to us, is my wife doesnt come home stressed anymore.
THAT is more important than anything, even if it means bitting the bullet big time.
When one has faith, it always turns out ok, even if it takes time.
ragtopman Jun 11th, 07, 05:19 PM One door doesnt get closed without another getting opened.
Good luck in your endevors, have you looked up this way for prospective clientelle?? They are building full steam ahead, especially in what we call Indian Land, Tega Cay, Fort Mill. Anything just south of Charlotte in SC. Even around here in the projects of York, there doesnt seem to be a slow down cause even new houses need to be looked at by a independant inspector due to the 'good ole boy' syndrome.
BonzoHansen Jun 11th, 07, 06:05 PM Always look on the bright side of life...
You'll land heads up, no worries!

Dinner with your wife is not a deductible business expense. If you get on a plane, and it is not for 100% business reasons, also not deductible. Driving your car...same thing.
dreamweaver Jun 11th, 07, 10:33 PM Dinner with your wife is not a deductible business expense.
You are wrong. My wife is the treasurer of my corporation. Every time we go to dinner, we talk about business.
If you get on a plane, and it is not for 100% business reasons, also not deductible.
Wrong Again - Over the last 10 years, EVERY time I have gotten on a plane I have conducted business at the other end.
Driving your car...same thing.
As for my personal cars, trucks and vans I take an 80% deduction. My accountant advises me that I could take more, but I lean toward the conservative side. I take my business with me everywhere I go. I am the president of one corporation and a member of the Board of Directors on another. I haven't written off any "Camaro" expenses..... yet. As soon as I determine what direction I want to take from a "business perspective" with classic cars, at that point I will begin taking the appropriate expenses.
Please read, and re-read my posts. Never once did I even hint at evasion of taxes, nor was I being braggadocios in any regard. I was merely pointing out the benefits of having one's own business as relates to tax advantages alotted by the government. To insinuate such is an insult to my character.
Hey......... Magda.............. I wouldn't be making false accusations of other members on a public forum if I were you.
TMagda Jun 12th, 07, 07:33 AM Just trying to help a fellow Camaro enthusiast - no insult or accusation intended. Sounds like you have it under control.
