View Full Version : Vendor UNbashing--Who's been great?
Bry68 Jun 10th, 07, 05:32 PM I know we all (myself included) get vendors who aren't that great. But, I've also had some great customer service by those going above and beyond (sending free parts, etc.). Here are a few of the ones that I can think of that have been great: Hotchkis, Autometer, Spectre Performance, and Lecarra. What vendors have been great for you guys?
BonzoHansen Jun 10th, 07, 05:34 PM Marcus at SC&C is top shelf.
MCGOO Jun 10th, 07, 06:39 PM So far CC5S has been great. The product installs as described & for the short drive I took las night it has performed as promised.
I will have a couple of questions & comments to direct to them, but based on the quick response I have received up to this point, I expect nothing but the usual great service from them.
I will report back later if this changes
Paul :beers:.
On the other hand, I have had an issue with a suspension supplier (non sponsor) that usually gets great reviews. Hopefully they are just so busy that they cannot respond to a simple request as quickly as I would like them to. No names though 'cause that is just fair to them & others.
Paul :beers:
67FamilyFun Jun 10th, 07, 06:47 PM I can't say enough good things about a sponsor here...American Auto Wire. The product is great, and their tech support was tremendously helpful.
Also, I'd add Rick's First Generation to the list. Their return policy is second to none.
Lastly, I'd add Touring Classics for brakes. Their brakes are great and the support was awesome.
Scott
Myfirst 69SS Jun 10th, 07, 06:54 PM Rick's First Gen. is the best all around.
keypilot Jun 10th, 07, 06:59 PM matts classic bowties has been fantastic. friendly and good service.
Peter Constantine Jun 10th, 07, 07:31 PM I had a good experience with Legendary Auto Interiors in NY recently.Their salesman Jeff Stewart went out of his way to make sure I was getting exactly what I needed for an oddball car.
camcojb Jun 10th, 07, 07:40 PM I can't say enough good things about a sponsor here...American Auto Wire. The product is great, and their tech support was tremendously helpful.
Also, I'd add Rick's First Generation to the list. Their return policy is second to none.
Lastly, I'd add Touring Classics for brakes. Their brakes are great and the support was awesome.
Scott
I second American Auto Wire. Top notch service and product.
Jody
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Jun 10th, 07, 07:52 PM Ive had good luck with Rick's.
Chevy Chase Jun 10th, 07, 09:38 PM Matts Classic Bowties in Concord, CALIF has been GREAT! I bought the pwr disc brakes upgrade, rear hotchkiss leafs, entire frt susp, Classic Auto Air Sys, interior, ext molding, etc.. Verrrrry knowledgeable staff and willing to listen. Shopped their prices...could not be beat! Very nice show room. :hurray:
zuma Jun 10th, 07, 09:48 PM Can't beat Steve's Camaros....He has been in the business longer then almost everyone and has a ton of orginal parts. Tons of knowledge... If he can't get it, he knows where you can or if you even need it. He is the man...:D
MY FIRST 69 Jun 10th, 07, 11:11 PM hydra tech brakes are good too.
130fe Jun 11th, 07, 07:25 AM hydra tech brakes are good too.
Another vote for Paul at Hydratech Braking, his customer service is top notch!
Others I can think of- Kyle Tucker and crew at Detroit Speed , Mark Campbell at Street and Performance and Frank at Prodigy Customs (GP Superstore).
clwilcox33 Jun 11th, 07, 07:34 AM http://belairbobs.com/ service is great. Mark at http://www.retro-electro.net/home.html has been great also. Both are members here. Oh, and another vote for CC5S.
Mike_M Jun 11th, 07, 07:44 AM Another vote for American Autowire, also I bought my master cylinder & booster from Matt's Classic Bowties, they were great. Inline tube was extremely helpful, also, and although it's a big place I was shocked at the excellent customer service I got from Jegs. NPD has been terrific, and I had an excellent experience ordering from Rick's. Frank & Lisa at GPSuperstore.com were excellent to buy from as well. It may not be particularly relevant to most of you guys in the 'States, but for my fellow Canadians I highly recommend Early Birds (www.early-birds.com) in Downsview, Ontario, I mostly deal with Mario there, he has been an awesome resource in helping me with my camaro.
click Jun 11th, 07, 08:10 AM www.madelectrical.com comes to mind, sometimes hard to reach by phone but VERY knowledgeable on wiring and kits and stuff
Ground Up is another, excellent experience with them as well as them being a site sponsor. :)
rare4k Jun 11th, 07, 08:22 AM Ames pontiac is the BEST they give a Detailed description of the part unlike the camaro guys
cowboybob Jun 11th, 07, 09:19 AM Frank at Prodigy Customs, Kyle and Stacy Tucker at Detroit Speed, Mike Riggs at Mike's Custom Cars, and Pacual Marquez at Marquez Designs have always taken the time the answer my long and sometimes idiotic questions. Kudos to all of them!
Brian
DougP Jun 11th, 07, 10:54 AM I value good customer service and have to throw in a plug for Belair Bob. He got back to me quickly and answered any question I had about parts, order status and a few other things.
dawg Jun 11th, 07, 04:11 PM black mountain precision.
no questions asked return and set up help was second to none!
I had a problem with the alternator pulley and they gave me a whole kit!
http://www.blackmountainprecision.com/
clwilcox33 Jun 11th, 07, 04:25 PM I want to add my local beer store to the list. They've faithfully provided all the beer I needed during each phase of my restoration at the same price every other customer pays.
BonzoHansen Jun 11th, 07, 05:16 PM Wow, so many great answers. AAW, GP Superstores (Lisa is the brains :P), Madelectrical & CC5S all helped me get the 77 on the road!
Also, our own JodysTransmission - w/o him my ST10 would still be leaking. Jody is also a top shelf guy!.
eville Jun 11th, 07, 06:19 PM I have to second Steve's Camaro's in San Bruno, CA and third Frank and Lisa with GPSuperstore.
ChevyThunder Jun 11th, 07, 07:24 PM I will give the thumbs up to Steve at Steve's Camaro's in San Bruno California. Steve has been doing this for years. I have actually had some problems with some of the vendors named here. But Steve and Mike at Mike's Custom cars, Pasqual at Marquez Design ... those guys have been great. I have also had good experiences with Summit too for the generic stuff.
19694speed Jun 11th, 07, 07:44 PM summit , been useing them for the past 25 years , never had a problem , looking forward to another 25 lord willing:thumbsup:
RamAirDave Jun 11th, 07, 07:57 PM Maybe I've been lucky, but I can't recall ever having a serious issue with any of the many vendors I use. Sure, the occasional hiccup will occur, but have always been solved easily.
Ames pontiac is the BEST they give a Detailed description of the part unlike the camaro guys
This is true. They will have honest comments in their catalog about whether a part is good or not. They will repro a part themselves if what is available isn't up to snuff. And if you want to call them to discuss a part, they'll shoot you straight. A few years ago when the repro Abody brake boosters came out, one of the "generic" parts houses told me they were great. I called Ames, they said they did not fit and that they wouldnt sell them until the mounting brackets were reconfigured.
69crazy Jun 11th, 07, 09:17 PM One more for Steve's Camaros.I've been getting stuff from him since he was selling out of his mom's garage in SF.
68rs406 Jun 11th, 07, 10:36 PM Denny's Driveline, I've dealt with many dealers and distributors, some Camaro related, mostly racecar related vendors, and they were bar none the best technical and customer service support I've ever had. Plus they were only 1 day off the predicted delivery date, so for my troubles paid the cost to ship express to me, amazing business to deal with
DjD Jun 12th, 07, 12:06 PM I have to put K&N Filters on the done good list as well... I had never cleaned the lid before but it needed it so I bought a new cleaning and oiling kit and went too it. The cleaner removed the black aniodizing on part of the lid. I called them where a rep had me e-mail pictures and they are over-nighting a replacement. They were very understanding that I was leaving on thurs and needed it before heading 200 miles to Pismo for the weekend show there...
I'd also like to give a  to Steves Camaros as well...
Wazoo151 Jun 13th, 07, 07:30 AM Hotchkis answered lots of questions and were great! Also, K's Kustoms is an AFR stocking vendor and treated me very well, as did Matt's Classic Bowties - they got me a missing proportioning valve on some brakes I bought from them quickly and without hassle.
Robert
edd Gordon Jun 13th, 07, 01:25 PM Rick's First Gen was always Great with Me and Summit never had a problem with them either. American autowire is fantastic lots of My gearhead friends have had great luck with them. Prodigy is another fantastic outfit in Orlando area. EBAY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mstehle Jun 13th, 07, 04:34 PM Eric at Vintage Muscle Car Parts treated me well. He found a date correct carb for my L78 and did a nice restoration job on it. Good directions on setting up the float bowls. etc. Good follow up too.
Vintage Musclecar Jun 13th, 07, 06:17 PM Eric at Vintage Muscle Car Parts treated me well. He found a date correct carb for my L78 and did a nice restoration job on it. Good directions on setting up the float bowls. etc. Good follow up too.
Mark;
Thanks for the kind words, they are sincerely appreciated. You've been a great customer to deal with as well. :beers:
Eric
Mr. Super Sport Jun 13th, 07, 08:07 PM Rick's is the best. Very nice people to work with.
68DaveV Jun 13th, 07, 08:19 PM For those in the St. Louis area, Jim at Gateway Reproductions is great. I haven't been up there for a few months and he was looking to retire and sell the business but he'll always sit and talk cars as long as you want. Lot's of knowledge.
RickD Jun 14th, 07, 05:38 AM Hmmm, let's see. Any ommisions are not due to a bad experience but most likely my (lack of) memory:
Paul at Hydrotech
Pasqual at Marquez
Classic Tube
Denny's drivetrain
My local builders (engine, tranny) - Support the local talent!!
American Autowire
Deist (very helpful in setting me up with belts, hardware).
Frank and crew at Prodigy
Mike Lewis Racing (rotating assembly and MANY questions - I don't think Mike sleeps)
And, all the help from these boards
TazJr800 Jun 14th, 07, 12:08 PM McHenry Classic Cars in Hebron, IL. Owned by Ron Norman. Speacializes in 1st gen Camaros and early Chevelles. ANYTHING you need, he can get. Very reasonable.
PitStop Jun 14th, 07, 04:11 PM Thegearbox.org has been great when i rebuilding my muncie. I ordered a rebuild kit and when he sent it, he wasn't sure which input bearing I needed, so he sent both and charged me for one. Most people would have waited until the customer complained then made it right
AAW Jun 26th, 07, 06:15 AM Thank you!
What a nice thread...
68rs406 Jun 26th, 07, 11:47 PM Another one I forgot, Don with Vintage Camaro in Chehalis Wa., I have bought parts from him in the past, and he just recently set me up with the last of the parts I needed for my interior (all factory stuff). He's honest and very helpful, plus he restores them too, so he knows how certain parts work (or not) and can give tips on doing the job. Definately two .
DHONDAGOD Dec 9th, 07, 08:58 PM Only had our 69 Camaro a year but two thumbs up for Steves Camaro's in San Bruno Calif.
He and this board is edumuncating me on our car and getting us up to speed on what we need to do to get it road worthy.
Looking forward to trying some of the other vendors here as well..
Good thread
Chris:thumbsup:
Geezer Dec 9th, 07, 09:40 PM I haven’t bought from a Camaro specific vender lately, but when custom wiring the boys truck and ordering from work I’ve always received remarkably excellent service from Allied Electronics. They recently sent me a bag of the wrong spade connectors. Their resolution was to let me keep the wrong ones and fedex the right ones overnight no additional charge! :hurray:
dbx1969 Dec 9th, 07, 09:54 PM I'm glad this thread was revived. I should have know someone would lock the recent Rick's thread earlier. I jumped on the bandwagon, but it is just beating a dead horse ....in different barns :). It's nice to mention the good things that we run into.
I've had great dealing with:
CC 5spd- Dealt with Jim (GMJim) specifically, and I can't say enough nice things about him. Absolute pro with the patience of a saint :).
SC and C- Of course, Mark. Wealth of info and very nice to deal with.
AJ USA- Guy name Scott was very helpful, even though it's not exactly like the first two operations I mentioned. But I found their prices to be best on-line for most suspension needs I had.
Ricks- To be fair, the vast majority of my dealings with them were great. I'd mention Sam, specifically.
Car Parts Discount- Limited dealings, but great prices and CS.
My last several purchases have been through Ebay power sellers, and I have yet to be disappointed. Any generic type products (water pumps, alts, SS braided hoses etc...) can't be beat at most "normal" vendors.
Rick's - had what I needed, stood behind product, great prices. BUT, I haven't purchased anything since the buy out.
Matt's Classic Camaro - good communication, good customer service, especially Melissa.
Year One - they were helpful, knowledgeable, and gave my son and I a great tour of their warehouse and shop. Unfortunately the guy I dealt with is no longer there.
Because of their willingness to assist me in my research for items needed to finish my car, I will be buying from Belair Bob's and AAW. They have gone above the call to help me make knowledgeable decisions, sometimes even telling me about other vendors who were cheaper.
DougP Dec 10th, 07, 05:47 AM I put in a plug for Belair Bob earlier - I want to add Matt's Classic Bowtie to the list as well -- good customer service and follow up
zeb596 Dec 10th, 07, 08:36 AM I will throw in Firewheel Classics.. Bought most of my supplies from them for my 69 rebuild and they are great people. They always have parts in stock and are very friendly and helpful. Also big thumbs up to team at Prodigy, AWW has awesome products and Summit Racing.
77wolf10.85 Dec 10th, 07, 09:09 AM The ones I've dealt with that really stick out as going the extra mile for me in the past year or 2
Jesel. Got the wrong setup twice. They never batted an eye, just kept working with me and sent new stuff before we even shipped the original back. Seems like I always deal with a dude name Bob there. He's good people.
Childs and Albert. Top Notch. These guys are probably busy with the top dragster guys but they have always made time to answer my questions, and give damgood advice...never in a hurried fashion. Can't beat their products.
Jegs and Summit(IMO you can't beat these 2 houses for average purchases)
Goodson(delivery was slow and billing got fubard somehow... but customer service is above and beyond)
Keith Craft(does all Brodix T-1 CNC 227's). He's busy as hell but he always had time to talk to me. And when he said he would call me back... HE DID. He even called me from the track one night.
slammys69 Dec 10th, 07, 12:29 PM I have had good luck with Firewheel Classics.
Microgiant Dec 10th, 07, 12:33 PM Some ive seen bashed b4:
I ordered from Ricks during the 10% off sale on a Sunday recently. I live in Texas and had all my stuff by Thursday. However although when I called in to update a web order and was told it would be updated nothing ever happened. No biggie.
I also order a lot (LOT) from Classic Industries and received all that promtly and well packaged. I have had to use customer service there broken part (by shipper) and it worked out fine. Even when updating an order.
angelglo Dec 10th, 07, 02:24 PM i guess along with the other bay area guys, i too will give a thumbs up to steve at steve's camaros. ive also talked with matt from i believe matts classics during car shows. he seems like a nice guy. the guys at gardners exhaust were also great and knowledgeable
jch1805 Dec 10th, 07, 03:35 PM I have to chime in for Bob at BEL-AIRE BOBS, excellent customer service and response.Had a hood damaged in shipping, no fault of Bobs, I called him and he had another sitting on my dock before I could return the first. No questions asked.
Everett#2390 Dec 10th, 07, 06:34 PM Innovative Motorsports for the group buy they did for us, the LM-1 Air/Fuel Meter.
Tacoma Tom Dec 10th, 07, 06:44 PM I have used http://www.biscaysclassic.com a few times. They always seems to have what i need in stock, no matter how stupid the part is.
1969ProStreetCamaro Dec 10th, 07, 07:02 PM My list of Vendors that I am extremely proud of are:
American Auto Wire
Classic Industries
Rick's First Generation
Chevy World Parts and Acessories, Bryant, Al.
Jegs High Performance

Big Boys Toys, Huntsville, Al.
vettedude Dec 11th, 07, 10:16 AM American Auto Wire
Summit and Jegs
Classic Industries
All have done a great job. Classics Industries' Tech Support is the BEST.
chuck69ss Dec 12th, 07, 11:23 AM No problems with any mail order places that I've used - NPD, Ground Up, AMK, and D&R Classic have all been great. Summit Racing packed an incorrect set of bearings but shipped the correct ones right away after a quick call.
Locally, I use Competitive Auto in Warwick, RI - no website or catalog but he stocks tons of GM restoration parts. If you're in RI/MA area and want to pick your stuff up, check it out.
Arch Stanton Dec 12th, 07, 01:22 PM Another one for Firewheel Classics here. Glad I found them.
Jegs is my choice for the generic stuff.
67 RS/SS DIRT CHEAP Dec 12th, 07, 01:50 PM Super Chevrolet Parts Is A Very Good Also.. Always Great Service...
ChuckD Dec 12th, 07, 07:11 PM Just finished my 69 this summer and I used Summit/Ricks/GMPartsDirect.com for most things, Lee Tibbets at Al's Machine in Woodstock, Ill, (old school crafty!!)... but by and large, you can't beat the knowledge and service of Ron Norman at McHenry Classic Car Parts in Hebron Illinois. Super guy. Every visit gives me a chance to catch up on his Yenko restoration projects. He has his Yenko Chevelle in his showroom, and it's perfect!!
Oh yeah, lest we forget, a hearty thanks to the many member on this site for their invaluable knowledge shared via PM's. Super Service for each other!!
jay'srs/ss Dec 12th, 07, 07:28 PM I have to second Steve's Camaro's in San Bruno, CA
When I 1st got my Camaro, my Dad & I went to Steve's and dropped over a grand. I was like a kid in a candy store! Great service, very knowledgable, and I've gone back several times since.
Also I've had great service from:
Classic Industries
YearOne
Rick's
Tybrne Motorsports
Thunder Racing
:beers:
zdld17 Dec 12th, 07, 07:30 PM For Texas residents, can't beat Firewheel Classics.
BigBlock1969RS Apr 19th, 08, 07:59 AM I just want to say Frank at Prodigy has been great to deal with. I had ordered a new rear end and G-Bar from him and there was a bit of a mix up but he was able to expedite the order and got everything to me really fast (much quicker than the estimate). It rare to see a vendor go to that much extra effort, really impresses me!
