Does anybody have plans, experience, recommendations, etc., for building a go-kart for my nephew? He's a little duffer right now (almost 3) but the electric Power Wheels silverado just isn't cutting the mustard anymore.

I want to build something cheap using a 5hp Briggs / Tecumseh, and be able to adjust the length of the steering wheel, as well as seat position. Adjsut will probably mean cut and reweld, but I guess I'm looking for advice on materials to use, places to buy stuff like wheels, tie rods, etc. and just general information. Are those plans you buy online for $20 anything decent?
Thanks fellas.....:beers:

Are there kart tracks in your area? I would look for a used kid kart. Kids 5 to 7 start in this kart. They use a 2 stroke 50cc Comer engine that runs best on pump gas. The chassis size is correct for a kid this age.

Used karts a easy to find in most areas. They get little abuse and many used karts are almost new because Dad bought the kart thinking junior would really take to it, bit found out that junior really wants a motorcycle or a skateboard.

Building kids kart would be big under taking to do it right. you can probably pickup a used kart for under a grand easily.

I guess I should have specified a little more.....this would be an off-road cart; something he can hammer around the lawn and driveway with, not one of those shifter karts. Unfortunately, there is nothing around that I know of.

I looked last evening, and it does appear that frames and what not are fairly cheap in comparison to building one. Might buy the components separately and see what I can do.

Have you tried Pep Boys? They seem to have some pretty nice looking Go karts

I've seen go-karts and tons of parts for them at Northern Tool. I was really surprised at the low cost of them too.
