I have a 1992 camaro rs. It originally had a 3.1 multiport engine, but I switched it out with a hypo 350 out of a 1984 corvette. After getting the engine dropped down in I finally got to fire it up. It sounds great. However, when I went to take it out onto the road it dies when I hit the gas. The neutral safety switch is out on it and I have to jump it with a piece of wire. I was wondering if the computer controls the fuel pump. I removed all the computerized stuff off the motor, but I never thought of the fuel pump. Since it thinks the car is in park could it not be giving enough gas to the motor? or is it more likely to be something else causing this issue. I also thought it may be due to the distributor. I took off the electronic one and put a vaccume advance on it. Any help would be appreciated.

was the vette motor a crossfire, or carbed???if carbed, whats happening is the fuel pump charges the lines for 3 secs before starting, and then shuts off until it senses the engine spinning through dist hall effect sensor...then it spins back on...you cannot use the factory pump with a carb, as it makes WAY too much pressure for the needle and seat on a carb...if it was carbed, you could remove the intank pump, and make a sump to go in place, and then run a mech pump off the motor...skip the return line...sounds like you`ll be making alot of posts in the near future...but we`re here to help...
