I just did mine last week, but put rtv in 4 corners and where it curves down front and back with no leaks.

I only put rtv on the four corners (at the base of the curved areas near the tabs) but not in the curved areas. Now I'm worried its gonna leak. So, I put a bead outside the front of the curved area and I'll try to do the same with the back near the rear main. If this thing leaks I'm gonna be so disapointed!!

I think one of the biggest problem us guys make is that we like everthing too tight!!! (yikes)

We over-tighten our carbs, valve covers and oil pans. I think the reason you want to be careful is because any kind of a sealer will allow the gasket to slide or be pushed. Most pans have a bead rolled in the center (at least stock ones), an sillicon can actually cause the bead to cut or work into the gasket if you over tighten. If you are super careful, you will probably be okay. The only thing I use on gaskets is the spray on copper gasket. It's nice and tacky, but wont let the gasket slide like the stuff from a tube. Hope this helps.

One more thing....if the timing cover is off, the only thing I would use is the one piece. If you are working on just the pan, then yes....you will have to put something in the corners where the gaskets come together. It took me a minute to realize what you were talking about the "corners".

I have a 73 350 and I am using a Milodon 7qt pan. Do they make a one piece gasket for that year engine. All I have seen are the two piece.

I too have a 73 350. But I am using a moroso 7 qt. pan. But I don't think that would make a difference. And I have a one piece gasket.

Just looked on Jegs website and they have one for your pan part #497-41000. Cost $32.

I installed a one piece FelPro #1885 oil pan gasket on my 327. I installed it completely dry (I read the instructions). I did have to use longer oil pan bolts as the gasket is thicker than stock. I put 700 miles on it last week and my oil pan is bone dry.

Did you forget to fill it or were you making a commerical for one of those PTFE products like slick50? :D

Sorry I couldn't resist... ;)
