There is a guy not to far from me parting out a 1990 IROC-Z. It is a 5.7L (350 engine). I hate to see a car like this car being parted out. The 1990 is a rare model and they are hard to find with a 350. It runs, it drives, it stops. The seller said the floors are basically all trashed, it needs rust repair plus the usual problems (not sure what he meant by usual problems).

Guys & gals, Chevy only made 2,415 of these 5.7L's for 1990 making it a fairly rare car. The guy is asking $2,500 for the whole car. I think he would take $2,200 cash. According to NADA even in poor condition these cars go for $2,300 to $2,500.

This is the only pic of it and as you can see the paint on the front looks rough http://images.craigslist.org/01020101040101030620070616f82ca450d01d12edf3004ad8 .jpg

Is it worth $2,000 - $2,500 even with issues? Or should I pass?

For $2K, I'd get it. The trunk latch gearbox breaks very easily as the case is made of plastic.

Neat car and I've always liked that dark/bright blue color. Friend had one in high school - very fast and fun car. Spanked Buttstains/Rustangs all the time! Good luck whatever you decide.

My buddy and I walked away from a running driving and stopping 350 IROC for $1200 last year. You'll need 20+ years before the value of a rare 3rd gen exceed what it will cost you to restore it today. Here in CA the smog laws are keeping most cars like this from holding any value. The fact that the guy is parting it out tells me he knows the sum of the parts is worth more than the whole of the car. My thinking is he came up with $2500 based on what he thinks he can part the car for but knows it wouldn't fetch that much. If not he wouldn't be parting it and would be asking $3000 knowing he'd take less...
