A friend has an 84' Z/28 camaro with a 305 carbed motor and he wants to know the max lift his bone stock heads can take. He will be replacing the 305's cam with one that is a tad bigger than the cam in the 350 vortec motor by S&D (scoogin and dickey if thats how you spell it.)

Any ideas on making decent h.p. out of a 305 would be appreicated (and no replacing it with 350 or whatever jokes please.)

He has long tubes and a new ignition going on this motor aswell.

Thanks!

Can the stock heads take this new cam and does the 305 have enough compression to put this cam to use? Will it benefit if this cam is installed?

NO!! Those two cams are WAY too big!!

And no again, about .450" lift max, imho, for stock head springs!!

Z-28 springs should go to .510" if everything fits OK!! BUT I wouldn't run them much over .480" to be safe!! And I didn't in my 406!!!!

Cams, I figure a good old CC 260HE or even their 268HE should do fine here!! NO BIGGER!!

If you want SOTA, then use a SMALL VooDoo or call UDHarold up and talk to him yourself since he designed them!! Here is how to get in touch w/ him!

"I work for Custom Camshaft Company, a division of Arrington Manufacturing.
I stay at my house in Senatobia, MS, and telecommute to work in Martinsville Va. My office phone is 662-301-1245, and so far I'm having to take my wife to work, she's a Staff Accountant in Memphis, so I'm not here before 9:00 AM CST or from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM CST. I answer the phone when it rings, and have sold several cams to Team Chevelle members."

And please say hello from ol' pdq67 for me.
