View Full Version : Undercoating map, input?
JHunter Feb 12th, 05, 01:07 PM I posted a while back that I would get a picture up of where my undercoating was when I sandblasted the underside of my car, and finally did. Of course, after looking at the bottom of my camaro for hours while sandblasting, you'd think Id remember where the original undercoating was, but Im not 100% sure. I dont want to undercoat the entire bottom of the car, mainly because thats not how I found it, and I like both looks, painted and the undercoating. Sooo, anyone else out there find that there was undercoating only in certain areas of the underside of their camaro's? Here is a link to the map I made up using microsoft paint program: http://community.webshots.com/photo/174067633/266841155nbCCJL
and a pic w/o the map: http://community.webshots.com/photo/174067633/266841105uvUNdE
Thanks guys.
Joe Harrison Feb 12th, 05, 01:52 PM I like that idea of a map, pretty cool.
Jonesy Feb 12th, 05, 02:03 PM Mine was only undercoated in the rear wheel wells. Mine is an LA car so I dont know if all cars got undercoated or not in the areas you show. I sandblasted it on a rotisserie and if there was undercoating there, it blew right off.
JimM Feb 12th, 05, 06:36 PM mine was just like yours, more or less...
wow, no wonder people worry bout subframe connectors and stuff, there ain't no metal under them coupes... da ragtop's practically got a full frame welded in under there.
JHunter Feb 13th, 05, 05:36 AM Thanksd guys for the input. Wondering if anyone else out there can confirm that their car had basically the same areas undercoated, or if not, where theirs was.
Unreal Feb 13th, 05, 10:35 AM Mine had undercoating in the rear wheelhouses, but also had some in the front wheelwells....Actually wheelwell, as my car was in pieces, and the pass side one was gone. Note that there was a fair amount of original color in the rear wheelhouses, under the undercoat.
Also, note that there was undercoat on the inside of the quarterpanels, in the trunk to act as a sound deadener. They taped a piece of 3x5 or so cardboard over the sidemarker opening, so that area has no undercoat.
JimM Feb 13th, 05, 10:56 AM I should have mentioned that in additon to the areas in your map, mine was also undercoated in all 4 wheelwells, somewhat spotty in front tho
Joe Harrison Feb 13th, 05, 06:36 PM Mine is an LA car and only has it lightly in the wheel well area.

jus4funn68 Feb 14th, 05, 10:22 AM My car was undercoated front back and side to side. There isnt one spot under this car that didnt get it :( . I dont particularly like that look but hey! no rust in this car smile.gif . I guess its a trade off. Kevin
dougrmac Feb 16th, 05, 10:17 AM From the factory the only areas that were undercoated were the rear wheel wells and the back portion of the front wheel wells. Anything else was added on later.
