View Full Version : padding under the package tray?? utility5 Jun 19th, 07, 10:01 AM Anyone tell me if there is sound deading (padding) supposed to go under the stock package tray on my 69?? madmax87 Jun 19th, 07, 10:11 AM Yes, they sell a jute padding insert for the tray. I had a tuff time getting it installed and finally decided to go without. Couldn't get tray to sit flat with it installed. Maybe they have got better over the years. This was about 5yrs ago. Ricks 1st Gen sells them for $9.95 p/n IN-44. Codi Jun 19th, 07, 10:19 AM I had problems trying to stuff my package tray and padding in there so I removed the padding and used some of my brown bread (sound deadner) instead. utility5 Jun 19th, 07, 10:39 AM I agree, I placed it in with difficulty, and the tray is not flat. I thought maybe the padding wasn't supposed to go into Camaros. zdld17 Jun 19th, 07, 12:09 PM Used the one sided foil backed jute pad all the way down. I have the perforated speaker mesh type . 68CMRO Jun 19th, 07, 04:52 PM I just used a layer of Brown Bread under mine. Mark Rossiter Jun 19th, 07, 08:15 PM I still have the original package tray from my 67, although it is stained, hacked up for rear speakers and warped from the sun. In spite of all that, it has the original jute padding glued to it. The replacement stuff must be much thicker, because just like the rest of you have discovered, the repop pad and tray combo doesn’t fit, no matter how much screwing around you do with it. I was going to try to find some thinner jute material at a local upholstery shop, but the brown bread stuff sounds like a good way to go. Can you buy it in small quantities? JohnZ Jun 19th, 07, 08:19 PM Anyone tell me if there is sound deading (padding) supposed to go under the stock package tray on my 69?? Don't know about the standard interior, but my original Deluxe interior '69 has padding under the shelf trim panel. 68DaveV Jun 19th, 07, 08:45 PM JohnZ, I see you have a new looking window defogger motor. I could not find a new one and ended up rebuilding my original. I don't expect it to hold up long. If that is a replacement, mind telling me where you got it? Sorry about the thread hijack. Gary L Jun 19th, 07, 09:58 PM Dave, there is a shop down in the Los Angeles area that can rebuild that motor. It costs about $200. KevinK7 Jun 20th, 07, 08:22 AM ...not trying to hi-jack the thread either, ....but could someone post a link on where to locate this "brown bread" stuff. ...my original '67 has it still there as well. zdld17 Jun 20th, 07, 08:56 AM JC whitney sells this and other sound deadner. Most audio shops carry this stuff. $$$ sometimes. Codi Jun 20th, 07, 10:13 AM I forget where I got my brown bread but it is like dynomat except less expensive. Notice i did not say cheaper. I'd do a Google search on brown bread. JohnZ Jun 20th, 07, 01:39 PM JohnZ, I see you have a new looking window defogger motor. I could not find a new one and ended up rebuilding my original. It's never been touched - it's original; car just turned over 34K miles. |
