I've installed a new spring, control arm bushings, upper & lower ball joints. It doesn't look right to me, but maybe it's because it's up on a jack. Control arm bushing bolts have not been tightened.

Do you think it's because it's up in the air, or did I do something stupid?

Here is a picture with the weight on a jack stand under the frame (control arm hanging loose):

Yes, looks normal with no weight and no sway bar bolted on.

I think I did not install the upper ball joint boot properly. I pushed it as far up onto the ball joint as it would go and then installed the collar, or whatever it's called. Looking at the one for the other side, it looks like I should have installed the boot into the collar with more boot sticking out, and then installed it to the ball joint.

I would suggest fixing that boot! Water and dirt will kill that ball joint fast. If it were to break that could cause some nasty damage to your fender. I used poly ones this time around. They were a total PITA to install but worth it after I was done. I used them on my tie rod ends also. You can get them at Autozone. Energy suspension makes them. Cheap also at about $20.00 for both upper and lower in inner and outer tie rod ends.
