View Full Version : Fold Down rear seat install?
Hood_Lum Jun 21st, 07, 11:45 AM I dont have fold down rear seats on my 67.
Would it be possible to install it? What parts do I need?
Is there a site that would walk me through this?
Thanks
click Jun 21st, 07, 12:10 PM Hi Oliver, the parts needed for that fold down are many, back and seat are different, side panels are different, latch and area behind the seat are different. Not many of the parts are available either, just ebay from old cars. Its not easy but it can be done, expensive after you get all the parts bought. You need the AIM Assembly Instruction Manual to walk you thru any project on your car too. That should be your first investment. :)
Hood_Lum Jun 21st, 07, 12:16 PM Okay, you scared me.

Hey I would definetly be interested in pics. I already have the folding seat but I need just about the rest of it. I do have the side panels since my car came with the deluxe interior. I need to know what kind of hardware I need and stuff like that. Thanks in advance!
Hood_Lum Jun 21st, 07, 11:18 PM From the sound of it. I think it's a bigger project than I'm willing to tackle.
But still, I would love to take a look at your pics.
AJSZR2326 Jun 22nd, 07, 09:38 AM what was the purpose of the fold down rear seat?

umm... well it folds down... but there is no connection to the trunk like on newer cars, so the purpose of the fold down rear seat? add something like 50 lbs? protect the seat base upholstery if you put a chainsaw or pick ax on the back seat and not in the trunk? umm...
I have a fold down rear seat, from the factory, I dont really see the point of having it, I really dont think I would have ordered it that way from GM

click Jun 23rd, 07, 10:14 AM We use our fold down to store our plastic sign board that we put under the hood at car shows, then a piece of cardboard over that, then coolers, suitcases, misc. stuff stacks better on a flat surface :D

why not put it in the trunk?
click Jun 23rd, 07, 01:27 PM trunk is full of canopy, canvas chair, umbrellas, spare tire, tools, some suitcase stuff, oil, tranny fluid, cleaning supplies etc. On a long haul road trip, we pack it all to the gills. The sign board MUST lay flat to protect the stick on letters. The fold down seat is great for that.

Hood_Lum Jun 25th, 07, 01:13 AM Maybe something is missing from my car. But it looks like if my rear seats could fold down it would connect to my trunk. From the trunk all I see are the springs from the rear seat. Am I missing something?

Yep. You are missing the 'trunk and seat divider'. It is essentially a hunk of dense cardboard. Here is a link to one from Rick's online catalog.

It has a few strategically placed holes cut in it for the rear seat hooks to poke through. My understanding is that Firebirds came with the jute padding but Camaros never did.
click Jun 25th, 07, 07:30 AM You should at least have the 'white' steel framing that shows in this pic. When you say you can see your springs, are you looking thru this verticle framing?
