i believe its the 8th digit of the vin...also on the emmissions tag under the hood, either on the fan shroud or hood, it will tell you the engine family and displacement...you can also count plug wires, and so forth...

I have a 92 RS, the engine can either be a V8 or a V6, mines the 305 TBI V8. Check the 8th letter of the vin #, mine is an "E" Code.

Yeah, an RS is just appearance, so it can be either the 305 TPI v8 or the v6 model.

RS in a late 3rd gen isn't the same as a Rally Sport in 1st or 2nd gen; I guess it could be considered "appearance", but in 92 you either got an RS or a Z28.

Holli - If the 8th character of your VIN is "T", it started as (and apparently still is) the LH0 V6. If it was an "E", it would have been the L03 TBI 305.

Well, typically in all gens the RS was just a slight cosmetic change. For instance the front bumper and grill were a little different than the z28 model. Compare 2 pictures of the same year and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I know that the major RS changes were in the first gens with the hide-away headlights, but the newer gens have slight cosmetic changes as well with the RS option.
