: Rear looks to high
dsherw00d Jun 23rd, 07, 10:44 AM I just put the rear end back in my 68 Camaro. I used a 12 bolt posi from a 67 Camaro (Monoleaf), DSE mono-to-multi kit, and multi-leafs from a 73 Nova. I don't have any interior, gas tank, rear shocks, engine, etc in - just bare roller. It looks to be about 4" to high. Is this OK for a roller - will it squat 3-4" when all together, or should I switch to different leafs?
Thanks,
Dan
67pat Jun 23rd, 07, 11:15 AM I dont know about 3-4 inches...sound like a lot...but my shocks top out about 1-1.5 inches before the maximum drop of the springs. To better explain,if you jack my car up on the frame and let the suspension hang free...if you take the shock loose the rearend will drop down another 1-1.5 inches or so...this would take care of some of your ride height problems but I dont know if I would recommend driving around with the shocks topped out. Some of the other guys can weigh in here but seems I remember this being a common problem and there are some things you can do.
67pat Jun 23rd, 07, 03:42 PM You might try looking up this topic under the search catagory...also a general rule about suspension is you only tighten the shackle bolts after the weight of the car is on them...also roll the car around a little to help it settle,I noticed my car had dropped down some after it was on the wheels and new springs after about 24 hours
dsherw00d Jun 23rd, 07, 04:04 PM I've been reading many posts since the problem and also well before I installed the rear. All the shackle bolts are still loose. I figured since the leafs I used were orginal to a 73 Nova, they should be pretty worn in. I don't know how much they will drop from sitting longer than the 34 years they have been under the 73:) I put about 100lbs in the trunk to see how it looks in a day or so. I can easily tell these are a whole bunch stiffer than the monos that were on it. One side is also a bit lower than the other - so maybe it's best just to get them out.
I ordered a set of the JCW 3 leafs today. I figure now is the time to get the old ones out and they had free shipping. It's a 30 minute job with the car the way it is now. I know many have had good luck with these.
Thanks,
Dan
67pat Jun 23rd, 07, 05:26 PM Yeh,I had multis under my car for a long time and it always rode terrible I mean if you hit a pebble in the road it felt like a pot-hole...I went back to mono's for a few years and I'm coming to the end of a frame off on my 67 and I went with the Hotchkis lowering kit this time...which makes it look really cool but its not drivable yet so I dont know what I've got yet but i hear good things about it so we'll see.Point is they are 3 leaf too so I think thats a good direction you're headed anyway.
dukemd66 Jun 23rd, 07, 05:35 PM My car is basically a shell. No motor, glass, front sheet metal, gas, interior etc. I put in a Hotchkiss TVS and it sits at 29" to mid rear wheel well. Currently has 15" Ralleys. Compared to the measurements people give with a completed car, I need about 3" of drop when all together. Curious where yours sits.

67pat Jun 23rd, 07, 09:37 PM Just came in from a great night out with the wife watching a Steely Dan tribute band which was great...but I will check in the morning as I could probably not read a tape right now...and no I did not drive home, we had a designated driver.I'll measure in the A.M.
pdq67 Jun 24th, 07, 08:32 AM You really need to get your car all back together including putting the spare tire and jack and stuff in the trunk before you take any measurements of it's rearend height!!

Finally got around to it...My car has the gas tank in with about 10 gallons in it...no interior, trunk lid, spare or jack and the back glass is out of it.Mid wheel well is exactly 29"...and I have 15" ralleys with 235/60/15s on the rear.
