Hi All:
Can any one tell me the correct process for painting hard platsic. I am looking to paint the platic piece that houses the fuel and spedo guage in my '68. There are serveral scrathes on it that I want to remove prior to painting as well. Can I just sand these out?? Do I wet sand when I am done??? What grit shoudl I use before and after?? I will probably use the plastikote spray can paint.

Thanks!!

hey on hard plastic you can just use bull dog adhesion promoter in a spray can and then just spray color but if you have scratches sand them out with 220-320 then finish with 400 or 500, whatever you use just be sure to finish sand with at least 400, the plastic coat will cover these but will not anything more aggressive i did mine, check pick out on my site

I don't know how deep your scratches are, but consider this if they aren't too bad. I used a kit that is designed for polishing crazing or other minor scratches from acrylic aircraft windows. The kit is made by Micromesh and you start out with very fine abrasives and work up to using their polish to finish the job. I used it on my 68 instrument carrier and it came out looking better than new. If you need a source for the kit or to check on the price, let me know and I'll provide one. I think Aviall carries Micromesh kits, they're located in Dallas Texas and Pontiac Michigan, probably some other locations.
