I posted a topic a little while ago trying to locate the original engine for my 1969 SS 396 camaro. The car was originally lemans blue with an ivory interior. This is the color combo I wanted anyway so I'm going to keep that. :yes: But all this time I've spent trying to locate the original engine (which probably won't happen), I've been contemplating what I should do if I don't find it. I'd like your opinions here. :D My options were to buy a non-matching numbers 396 also out of a 1969 ss camaro and make the car completely stock. To buy a 69 427 engine and still make the car look like a stock SS 396. Or to make the car look stock but make the drivetrain more powerfull with a ZZ502 crate engine.

About the least expensive "smaller" big engine is the old 496!!

You take one 454 P/U or 'Burb block and have at it!!

You can get 550 hp outta a mild 496 easy!!

I've got between $38 to $4,000 in mine and now know I can make another one some cheaper!!

I have a 396 in my 68 (non numbers macthing) completly rebuilt with all receipts and only 700 miles on it that I want to sell. In car and running. Come drive it and you like it I will take it out while you wait and its yours.
