A friend of mine has an 89 1LE/R7U John Player Special Camaro race car and the same thing only in a 1989 Trans Am 1LE John Player Special race car. Both cars are completely original and were never raced. They are a matched pair in color.
Both are 5 speed 305's with the original race prepared and tag sealed engines etc.
These cars are not your everyday 1LE's. Both are lower mileage, completely original cars. Any idea of value????

Most regular 1LE's (not race cars) around here with clean low mileage are going for about $15 grand. Some people have tried selling regualr 1989 IROC-Z's with 15 to 20k miles for $15k-$18k in price. They are on crack & crystal meth. Kelly Blue Book or NADA is not that much in value for a regular IROC even with low miles and these cars have been for sale for nearly a year.
For a 1989 regular clean low mileage 5.0L 1LE, $12-$14g easy and they get it around here. Maybe a few more $$$ if it was a 5.7L
For a race car like that? who knows maybe 20g or more. Like anything else it really depends on the buyer. I think you would have a better chance selling the cars in a national magazine like Hemmings or something like that.
This is JMHO so all you haters and critics out there just relax. If I'm wrong on the race cars I apologize but please save the hate mail for yourselves.

Up, here they don't sell for much more than a street 1LE. Having said that, I think they are undervalued. Convertible IROC's in similar condition still sell for more.

The Canadian's seem to have more of these than the US and they have a good following. Check out http://www.camarosource.ca/main_new_site.php?url=open_new_layout.htm - in the middle of the page you will see 2 players cars for sale. This site has a section for these cars. Does yours have all the race prep roll bars and such? It would be neat to own one of these cars - especially if it could be tied to a decent driver with some history. I believe the history will make it worth more than a never driven car - at least for me.

From what I know drivers, history and logbooks are what make Race cars valuable. Think of it like this, you can purchace an old Winston Cup car for a fair price that let's say Rick Rudd drove. Now take that same vintage racing year and price a Dale Earnhardt #3 car.

There is ABSOLUTELY no doubt that race history makes a car worth more money. The better the history/driver, the more valuable the car!
I have been vintage racing a 66 Shelby GT 350 and a Datsun 510 for the last 10 years and cars with history are definetly worth more than no history or little known driver history cars. EVEN when a famous driver's car has been balled up in a accident and repaired it is still worth more than an unknown's car! Why? Ego? Who knows but it is a fact.
Most all the Players cars and 1LE cars I have seen that have been raced have body panel replacement at a minimum. Most do not have the original spec engine/transmission or even more mechanical and body replacement.
The 2 cars I am interested in were never raced. They are nice, very original cars that were street driven and completely original including drivetrains, interiors, paint etc. They do not have the rollbars installed. The RU7 T/A's are rather unique in the fact that the interiors in 89 RU7 cars are actually Formula interiors so the rollbar will fit. There is extra bracing added to both 1LE/RU7 Camaro's and T/A's since they truly were meant to be raced. This bracing and other upgrades are above the "standard" 1LE option.
Thanks for the continued replies and opinions.
