The owner of the shop that is painting my 68 is redoing a 69 RS Conv of his own. He has this part that came with the car but is not sure what it is or where it goes. Any ideas?

Doug, just a total guess here... splash guard flap that bolts near the steering gear.

Not from a '69 Camaro.

Wow...never heard of that. I didn't know there was such a thing.
Do you have a part # for that Jim ?

Thanks

It's been years since I owned a '69, but I'd swear that looks like the linkage cover that bolts to the bellhousing/flexplate cover to protect the trans kick-down linkage on an Auto trans.
Mine were a 307350 and a 350/350 - they both had one.

I am from south Texas, I have seen this during the 60's cotton picking Bracero days, its a mud flap from those shoes make out of bias belted tires.
Comparable to modern day beach sandels.

Vintage has the idea of what I was thinking. There was something down there that Ive seen on a few cars but its almost always gone. I dont know of a part number and I cant find my AIM now either :(

Sometimes the OEMs put some really crappy looking stuff on their cars. Tell him to hang it on the wall and move on.

I think the first response was on the right track-----I think it is the splash guard for a 68 that mounts down by the steering gear. I saw it in aims when I built my car and I did not have it but it shows a part just like this.

LOL. That's what I was thinking but didn't want to say it.

I dont recognize it at all. Its not the splash shield/bracket that goes near the fuse block on the firewall.

John mentioned a shield for the trans linkage. I have heard that piece mentioned before, but have never seen/found one before, so maybe a possibility?

Could it by any chance be a convertible specific piece?

Flux capacitor?

Looks like a high load kanoot valve intake flap for a Hiezenberg compensator.

:D

Shield for the trans linkage is my guess too... I have one still intact on my car and it looks very similar. I'd have to look at mine to confirm.

Looks like the piece on my 67 rag top malibu that bolts to the flex plate cover and protects the trans linkage. They are most always discarded if ever removed for any reason. Rodney
