I finally found an 8.5" from a nova that Im going to get

The guy also has an eaton posi from a 99-03 truck he is selling

Will the 8.5" posi for a truck axle work in the nova rear?
I looked on summit and they have different applications, but I thought it might just be because one is 30 spline and one is 28 spline
And would it be worth it or should i get a eaton for the nova 8.5" rear?

The truck diff is a gov-lock style. Search "gov-lock" and you'll see that style really isn't for a performance application.

It will fit if you use the right bearings and axles. The Governor Lock is not a regular posi. It works off of a governor, which is not very strong. When the governor breaks you have a standard differential again because it will no longer lock up.

even the eaton is a gov lock?
or was the stock posi a gov lock, and this could be an after market clutch-type posi?
should I ask the seller if it is a stock one or something?

The Governor Lock is made by Eaton, but it is not the same as the Eaton Posi. The 8.5 car posi was a Traction Lock, but Eaton makes a new posi for it that is stronger.

ok, I am pretty sure that its an aftermarket posi, when thats what he told me
I guess I will find out tomorrow when I pick it up

First of all make sure its a 8.5" and not a 8.2"...you said Nova so I'm thinking 8.2". If it is truly a 8.5" then make sure the axle spline is the same. The rear is 28 spline the carrier might be a 30spline...if it is different then you would need axles to match...otherwise it will work. If its the gov-lock style it may work for you and it may not...depends on how you drive the car. Under normal driving they work ok...if you plan on hard launches it will grenade on you.
