I was reading about the filter jam and didn't want to hijack the thread but it brought to mind a frequent problem of mine.

I have Hooker competition headers on a 454.
The standard length filter comes down to barely clear the headers. No room for a real big WIX filter like I'd like to run.
I"ve thought about a filter relocation kit. I don't have inner fender wells in front, I run power steering so I don't know where to locate the filter.
There is a place near me called Williams oil filter service that will make a relocation kit as elaborate as I would like.
I've thought about running it forward, with the lines along the oil pan, then down under the radiator support or around the drivers side of the radiator to be in front of the radiator behind the grill. There seems to be space there.

I've also thought about going aft. there has to be some place back there with room for an oil filter.

I also had the crazy idea of maybe running it through a fluid cooler of some sort.

Any suggestions?

I have to use the medium length Wix Racing oil filter, and I have to loosen my header to change the filter.

I have remote filter and oil cooler(haven't seen it in a few years but I KNOW I have it) but can't make myself install them.

I would rather loosen the header than risk my engine on an oil line. I'll use all that filter/cooler stuff someday, but never on wolf.

I mounted mine here on the left front frame rail just aft of the bumper bracket hole. You can just see the Fram filter on the left side from the front of the car.

Williams is about 50 miles from me. Great people. Always worth the trip. Check out the watermaker on my sailboat over at my web site. Williams made the green hose for me.
Oops, this thread is about remote oil filters. I'm lucky with my Camaro because the stock location works great. But my sailboat diesel is just horrible. For 15 years I shopped for a solution. The average price quote I received was $400.00. Then I found Summit Racings universal remote oil filter adapter; $39.95 engineered by Trans Dap. (it's more cash now) Love it. But the hoses mount-up on barbs with clamps. Leaky. Not good anywhere but worse on a sailboat. This week, after five years, I converted it to AN. Looks like Tonys' now.:thumbsup:
Oh, and Mike, my little diesel ran the same filter as a Mazda GLC. It's OK but I'm with you! The Summit Remote runs a full size Ford type. My Wix looks a lot better.

Are there purpose intended oil coolers out there or do you just use a generic fluid cooler?

yes, there are coolers specifically for oil. I think the one I used was on clearance at the local speed shop twenty some years ago, was like a foot wide by 6" high by 3" thick, looked real "cool" in there!

The oil plumbing (and the cooler internals) needs to be -8 an, 1/2" stuff, considerably bigger than say a trans cooler.

I used one on my Vega for years with no problems. I don't like the rubber lines and would suggest the braided lines and fittings for safety.

Yeah my paint job is so bad, I have to have braided lines so SOMETHING looks good on the car.
