Can an auto tranny be installed onto a sb if the rear bushing for a manual tranny is still in the crank? And how do you remove it?

Work's like a charm. pdq67 BPOS Jul 1st, 07, 08:40 PM Just leave it there. ace's68 Jul 1st, 07, 08:53 PM What rear crankshaft bushing? I may know what your talking about, just have another name for it. Can someone enlighten me or post up a pic? I mean I have a manual tranny and I don't have any rear crankshaft bushing... besides a rear main seal... BPOS Jul 1st, 07, 08:58 PM Another name is "pilot bushing". Usually the factory ones were bronze. Some of the newer transmission use a roller bearing there. They press fit into the rear of the crankshaft center the input shaft of a manual transmission. They can be left in place if you swap to an automatic. tgifford5 Jul 1st, 07, 08:58 PM What rear crankshaft bushing? I may know what your talking about, just have another name for it. I don't have a picture but it is on the outside of the motor on the backside of the crank. For manuals there is a bushing in the rear of the crank, back by the flywheel. pdq67 Jul 2nd, 07, 06:17 AM "Pilot Bushing"!! pdq67 JohnZ Jul 4th, 07, 07:05 PM Looks like this, and you can leave it in place with an automatic. If you want to remove it without the grease mess, just run a 5/8" tap through it, then install a 5/8" bolt; run the bolt down until it bottoms out on the crank, then keep turning - it'll come right out. dubs68camaro Jul 4th, 07, 07:23 PM That looks a lot like my muffler bearing!
